Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls of Epoch Concepts. This role blends core commercial accounting responsibilities with government contract accounting compliance, including DCAA requirements, FAR/DFARS cost principles, and indirect rate management. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of the company's financial operations across both commercial and U.S. government contract engagements.

Strong knowledge of government contract accounting, DCAA compliance, FAR/DFARS, and indirect rates.

What you’ll do:
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
Assist the Controller in managing the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Oversee general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses for leadership.
Supervise and review the work of accounting staff, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and billing.
Assist with cash flow monitoring, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting and accounting processes.
Support the accounting system (ERP) administration, data integrity, and process improvement initiatives.
Government Contract Compliance
Maintain and support indirect cost rate structures (fringe, overhead, G&A) in compliance with FAR Part 31 cost principles.
Coordinate with DCAA and DCMA auditors on incurred cost audits, floor checks, and other compliance reviews.
Monitor compliance with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), as applicable to covered contracts.
Support contract billing across cost-reimbursable, time-and-materials (T&M), and firm-fixed-price (FFP) contract types.
Assist in maintaining written accounting policies and procedures consistent with government contracting requirements.
Support external financial statement audits and government compliance audits as needed.
Other Duties
Ensure timely and accurate regulatory filings, including 1099s, sales/use tax, and other required reporting.
Assist with special projects, process documentation, and ad hoc financial analysis as requested.

What qualifications you’ll bring:
CPA preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. MA or MBA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, preferred.
5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with U.S. government contract accounting and DCAA compliance.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and government cost accounting principles (FAR, DFARS).
Experience with GovCon ERP systems such as Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar, preferred.
Prior supervisory or team-lead experience within an accounting function, preferred.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
