Description
About PCDC
Quality primary care is transformative and a cornerstone of healthy, thriving communities. PCDC is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) community development financial institution that provides capital financing, expertise, and advocacy to expand primary care access and advance health equity in the communities that need it most. Built on 30 years of experience, PCDC is a statewide convener and primary care expert that brings safety net providers together to develop the care models and business practices they need to remain strong, sustainable organizations.
About the Role
PCDC is seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP) to help manage and grow its consulting business, in partnership with the Vice President (VP). This role oversees several service lines within the practice, each led by its own director, and splits time across three kinds of work: Internal administration, business development (New York and broader Northeast), and service line oversight. The Consulting unit supports primary care providers across all settings to strengthen their quality of care and their financial viability.
Recent example NY engagements led by PCDC’s consulting team include:
- Leading a Mother Cabrini Health Foundation-funded learning collaborative to improve FQHCs’ integration of behavioral health and performance in key BH quality measures.
- Leading a New York City-wide, intersectoral project, funded by the Novartis Foundation, to drive measurable improvement in cardiovascular health screening and outcomes.
- Developing the skills and comfort of IPA-employed practice liaison staff to drive quality improvement within their assigned network practices.
- Developing the primary care strategy for a Medicaid-funded Social Care Network; and
- Driving improvement in a FQHC’s revenue cycle KPIs through 1:1 practice coaching.
This is a working leadership role, not a purely strategic one. The AVP stays close enough to each service line to know what is happening in it, while carrying real accountability for growing the business and keeping it running well day-to-day.
Key Responsibilities
Service Line Oversight & Strategy (30%)
- Guide strategy and product innovation across PCDC's Consulting service lines (primary care operations, financial sustainability, and population health).
- Oversee the practice's service line directors and their teams.
- Review service line performance regularly: delivery quality, staff capacity, and financial health.
- Resolve cross service line coordination issues before they become client facing problems.
- Partner closely with the Director of Consulting Practice Management and Operations on pricing, capacity planning, and the systems that keep the practice running well.
- Support each service line director's growth in their role, including scope and title changes as their lines mature.
Business Development (50%)
- Own a personal book of business development, focused on new and expanded client and funder relationships in New York and the broader Northeast.
- Scope, price, and push forward potential projects with clients and funders across Population Health, Clinical Operations, and Financial Sustainability service lines (areas of PCDC’s expertise).
- Identify and create opportunities for innovative intersectoral partnerships that further PCDC’s mission and revenue opportunities, including relationships among funders, government agencies, providers, and community organizations.
- Support service line directors and consultants in their own business development efforts, particularly expanded, repeat, and referred business.
- Develop strategic relationships with vendors, trade associations, and other consultancies that increase PCDC's visibility, improve conversion rates, and build responsiveness to PCDC's target markets.
- Represent PCDC's consulting business at conferences, in funder conversations, and in other external settings that build visibility and pipeline.
- Partner with the VP on the overall growth strategy for the consulting business, including how it positions itself relative to comparable firms.
Business Unit Administration (20%)
- Manage the administrative work of running a multi service line business: Budget input, reporting, and coordination with PCDC's central office operations and finance.
- Act on behalf of the VP on administrative and operational matters when needed.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance conversations for service line directors, in partnership with Human Resources.
