Our experienced team partners with PWAs to advise clients on new loans, refinancing and restructuring of existing loans along with overall liability management. Our lenders and mortgage specialists provide a wide range of creative borrowing solutions against asset classes ranging from marketable securities and alternative investments, residential and commercial real estate to more tailored solutions against private assets such as aviation, fine art or vineyards. All team members are employees of Goldman Sachs Bank, USA.

Your Impact

As a member of the Private Bank Underwriting team, you will play an integral role in evaluating, structuring, and executing credit solutions for sophisticated Private Bank clients. You will partner closely with Underwriters, Originators, Bankers, Credit Executives, Risk, Legal, and investment professionals to deliver thoughtful lending solutions while maintaining a disciplined approach to credit risk.

Depending on experience and level, you will support or lead the underwriting process, develop credit recommendations, coordinate transaction execution, and monitor an assigned portfolio. More experienced professionals will independently manage complex transactions, provide subject-matter expertise, mentor junior team members, and contribute to underwriting standards and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Analysis, Underwriting and Structuring

  • Support or lead the underwriting and structuring of credit facilities for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, family offices, and other sophisticated borrowers.
  • Conduct financial statement, cash flow, collateral, liquidity, global exposure, and risk-rating analyses.
  • Evaluate a range of collateral and lending structures, including marketable securities, alternative investments, concentrated positions, real estate, private assets, aviation, fine art, partner capital, and other specialty assets.
  • Perform due diligence on borrowers, guarantors, asset holdings, trust and partnership structures, and proposed collateral.
  • Prepare high-quality credit memoranda, approval packages, risk assessments, and recommendations for credit committees.
  • Structure credit facilities that balance client objectives, transaction feasibility, and prudent risk management.
  • Present analyses and recommendations to credit committees and senior stakeholders, as appropriate for level.

Transaction Execution and Partnership

  • Partner with Originators, Bankers, Capital Advisors, Investment Specialists, Risk, Legal, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely credit approval and execution.
  • Coordinate documentation, internal approvals, compliance requirements, legal negotiations, closing activities, and resolution of outstanding transaction items.
  • Manage multiple transactions and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and strong attention to detail.
  • Communicate complex credit considerations clearly to internal stakeholders and, as appropriate, clients and their advisors.

Portfolio and Risk Management

  • Monitor ongoing financial performance, liquidity, covenant compliance, collateral sufficiency, global exposure, risk ratings, and overall credit health.
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, portfolio guidelines, and audit standards.
  • Identify data gaps, emerging risks, and potential credit concerns, escalating issues and recommending mitigation strategies as appropriate.
  • Support periodic portfolio reviews, annual reviews, risk assessments, and targeted portfolio analyses.

Leadership and Platform Development

  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture grounded in credit excellence, sound judgment, and client-focused execution.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen underwriting practices, workflows, controls, and credit programs.
  • At the Vice President level, mentor Analysts and Associates, lead cross-functional workstreams, and serve as a subject-matter expert on lending products, credit structures, and policy interpretation.
  • At the Vice President level, represent Underwriting in business initiatives, risk reviews, policy discussions, and process-improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Associate

  • 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in credit analysis, underwriting, commercial lending, corporate banking, private banking, asset-based finance, or a related financial services field.
  • Strong financial statement, cash flow, collateral, and credit analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear written analyses and manage multiple transactions with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and develop sound credit judgment.
  • Experience supporting ultra-high-net-worth or institutional borrowers is preferred.

Vice President

  • 7 or more years of relevant experience in credit underwriting, commercial lending, private bank lending, corporate banking, asset-based finance, or a related credit discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience independently underwriting and structuring complex credit transactions.
  • Advanced financial modeling, risk assessment, collateral analysis, and credit judgment across multiple asset classes.
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex credit considerations and recommendations to senior stakeholders and credit committees.
  • Demonstrated leadership through transaction ownership, mentorship, cross-functional influence, or process improvement.
  • Experience with ultra-high-net-worth clients, family offices, trusts, partnerships, or institutional-level borrowers is preferred.
