POSITION PURPOSE:

The Pharmacy Technician will perform many pharmacy-related functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and perform administrative functions of the department that do not require professional judgment and extensive technical training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Accurately and effectively prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist.

Makes requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the pharmacist.

Accurately and effectively orders, receives, and maintains inventory of drugs and chemicals, and ensures their security in accordance with department policy and procedure.

Helps maintain an orderly, clean environment including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies.

Accurately and effectively enters data into the computer system, records prescriptions, purchases orders, stock orders, requisitions, and disbursements.

Under direction of the Pharmacist, removes unneeded or outdated drugs from stock and prepares for return or disposal.

Performs general clerical duties for the department.

Follows all Aviva Health and department policies, procedures, and practices.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED certificate.

State licensing is required with national certification preferred.

Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training course or a minimum of one year of on-the-job training.

Ability to accurately and effectively enter data into an electronic pharmacy record.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize duties, and be organized.

Ability to effectively interact with patients and other staff with varied backgrounds and personalities and maintain good relationships.

Ability to provide excellent customer service under pressure to both patients and other staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to perform the following physical requirements:

In-person work during normal clinic hours in a heat-controlled environment.

Remain in a stationary position frequently throughout the day while performing technician duties and interacting with patients.

Move or traverse occasionally throughout the day in the pharmacy to perform technician duties.

Operate equipment frequently throughout the day using a computer and other office equipment.

Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and accurately so others will understand; ability to interact with patients and staff clearly.

Able to move or transport up to 15 pounds while using equipment or performing administrative and technician functions.

OSHA Exposure Category – Category #2: The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
