Job Description

This position is funded by the CDOT - Pueblo Country Traffic Safety Champion and Youth Driver Safety Initiative grant, ending on 9/30/2027. The position is term-limited, ending on 9/30/2027.

Primary Duties

Traffic Safety Champion & Regional Coordination

Coordinates the Pueblo County and Southern Colorado traffic safety network and serves as the regional Traffic Safety Champion.

Builds and maintains partnerships with schools, law enforcement, public health agencies, planning organizations, nonprofits, community groups, and state/federal transportation partners.

Facilitates stakeholder meetings and communication; supports coordinated efforts addressing seat belt use, distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, vulnerable road users, and other priority safety issues; represents SCITT/CSU Pueblo at coalition and community meetings; and maintains partner follow-up and action items.

Youth Safety, Engineering & Community Outreach

Plans and delivers youth and community outreach for SCITT and the School of Engineering, with emphasis on transportation safety, STEM education, and career awareness.

Coordinates Teens in the Driver Seat activities, school partnerships, Friday STEM School

traffic-safety and e-bike/scooter modules, presentations, campus visits, booths, career fairs, and community events.

Supports outreach to K-12 schools, community colleges, nontraditional students, families, industry, and community partners; develops engaging educational materials and promotes School of Engineering and SCITT programs, student opportunities, conferences, and workforce activities .

  • Program Administration, Communications & Evaluation
  • Coordinates program schedules, outreach materials, and communications for SCITT and School of Engineering initiatives. Tracks activities, participation, partner follow-up, and other program information; prepares summaries and supports reporting and evaluation required by applicable projects or funding agreements. Assists with planning and delivery of conferences, workshops, safety campaigns, recruitment activities, and occasional evening or weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and deadlines
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to build relationships with schools, community partners, students, and agencies
  • Ability to work with youth and diverse communities; and ability to travel locally for outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, transportation, planning, public health, education, communications, marketing, public administration, business, or a related field.
  • Any relevant traffic-safety, youth-programming, outreach, first-aid, or similar training/certification.
  • Knowledge of traffic safety and injury-prevention concepts
  • K-12/STEM or higher-education outreach
  • Community engagement; public relations and social media
  • Event/program coordination; basic data collection and evaluation
  • Graphic/content development; and grant reporting.
  • Ability to communicate technical topics to nontechnical audiences is desirable.
  • One or more years of experience in traffic safety, transportation, public health, education, higher-education outreach, community engagement, communications, recruitment, or program/event coordination.
  • Experience working with youth, schools, government agencies, nonprofits, or community coalitions is preferred.

Salary

$55,000 to $65,000
