Cytotechnologist

Full Time - Monday Through Friday 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

No weekends, and no Holidays.

About the Job:

Cytotechnologist with a strong Quality management/Project Management background to implement systems that support the laboratory management team in areas such as of Quality Management/Improvement, Document Control, Competency, and Liaison Clinical Education Programs. The incumbent will secondarily function as back-up Cytotechnologist as needed.

The Cytotechnologist performs specialized cytology testing and evaluation under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor. This role is responsible for screening and evaluating gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, supporting quality assurance initiatives, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to efficient departmental operations. The Cytotechnologist plays a critical role in the accurate identification of benign, infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant cellular changes while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and laboratory excellence.

What You’ll Do:

  • Prepare and screen Pap smear specimens utilizing ThinPrep and imaging technology.
  • Screen and evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens.
  • Accurately differentiate between benign, infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant cellular findings.
  • Utilize the ThinPrep Imaging System and Review Scope to support specimen evaluation and diagnosis.
  • Refer complex or challenging cases to the Department Supervisor or Pathologist as appropriate.
  • Support quality control activities and ensure accurate documentation of results.
  • Initiate corrective actions when quality concerns are identified.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating departmental procedures and manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, laboratory procedures, and accrediting agency standards.
  • Monitor laboratory equipment performance and coordinate maintenance and service as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency with laboratory and computer systems.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational quality assurance activities.
  • Stay current with advancements in Cytotechnology through continuing education.
  • Communicate effectively with peers and leadership regarding workload, scheduling, and operational needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support departmental operations and staffing needs as required.
  • Participate in department meetings, safety initiatives, HIPAA training, and accreditation activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote teamwork and high-quality patient care.

Who You Are / Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Physical Science, Biological Science, or a related field required.
  • Master's Degree in Cytotechnology preferred.

Licensure/Certification

  • CT (ASCP) certification required.
  • ThinPrep Cytology Screening Training and Certification required.
  • ThinPrep Imaging Processor and Review Scope certification preferred.
  • ThinPrep T-2000 training and certification preferred.

Experience

  • Graduate of an approved Cytotechnologist Training Program required.
  • One to three years of Cytotechnologist experience preferred.
