Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to: Assume the responsibility for overall management of Dental Service. This includes the organization of the administrative, day-to-day activities. Provide leadership and accountability for all aspects of the service, assuring support of the mission and values of this healthcare system and VlSN. Assume responsibility for carrying out the goals, objectives, plans and policies established by the Medical Center Director. Ensure the service functions as an integrated care-delivery system, providing a full continuum of patient-focused dental services for eligible Veterans. This includes review and approval of staff treatment plans and scopes of care for Veteran beneficiaries. Utilize data about providers and available resources, to formulate strategic short-term and long-term plans and goals for the service; identifies, tracks and trends any deficiencies; and develops plans to address any deficiencies. Plan, implement, and manage the Performance Improvement/QM programs within the service. Formulate and implement general policies, procedures, standards and goals and objectives for the Dental Service that are consistent with, and supportive of, the mission of the medical center and VlSN. Coordinate and integrate the interdepartmental functioning of the service. This includes chairing relevant meetings. Review and make recommendations to the COS on all dental NVCC cases. Complete performance appraisals and serve as approving official for the ratings of the Dental Service providers. Ensure, with the assistance of discipline specific-subject matter experts, and the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECMS), that all dentists meet licensing requirements; maintain clinical competencies in their fields; keep current with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements; provide thorough, appropriate documentation of care provided; and follow the rules and regulations of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Approve provider leave, including review of conference relevance and approval, if appropriate, for educational purposes. Serve as VlSN liaison for Dental Service issues, meetings, collaboratives, and other activities. Participation in National Collaborative activities including dental related meetings and others as assigned by the Chief of Staff. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Experience involving leadership and clinical roles group setting over private practice; VA experience isn't required but will be additionally considered. Skilled communicator. Physical Requirements: Reaching: This position requires frequent extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, including retrieval of needed equipment and supplies. Standing: This position frequently requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties such as those associated with patient care. Walking: This position requires frequent moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. Lifting: This position requires occasional raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position. Lifting may be done in the movement of equipment or supplies. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Fingering/Hands: This position requires constant writing or otherwise working with fingers and hands, including one or both hands to include duties such as entering information into the computer, etc. Talking: This position requires constant expression of ideas by means of the spoken word, including the provision of information to internal and external contacts and the sharing of information with co-workers. Hearing: This position requires constant perception of sounds at normal range, including the reception of oral communication both in person and over the phone. Repetitive Motions: This position requires constant substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, or fingers, as is done when entering information into the computer. Vision: This position requires constant ability to see near and far, requires depth perception and the ability to distinguish between basic colors and shades of colors when reading computer monitors, etc. Balancing: This position requires constant maintenance of equilibrium to prevent falling such as assisting co-workers and external customers with activity. Bending: This position requires frequent bending of the body downward and forward to assume appropriate-level position to retrieve items. Kneeling: This position requires occasional bending of legs at knee to come to a rest or kneel to assume an appropriate-level position for retrieval of items. Crouching: This position requires occasional bending of the body downward and forward to assume an appropriate-level position to retrieve items. Pushing: This position requires occasional use of the upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward or outward, as in pushing of AV equipment.
