The primary purpose of this position ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (ATCALS), GS-0856-09, target GS-0856-12 is to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS).

Duties

Provide certification and maintenance support on a variety of integrated radar and communications systems ensuringtheir compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safetyrequirements. Modify radar and communications systems as prescribed by the FAA, DoD, or AF. Participate in project planning and execution. Provide technical guidance, training, and assistance to other technicians and conducts on-the-job (OJT) training toapprentices in all phases of work. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe andclean work environment.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0856, Electronics Technical Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. TARGETED POSITIONS: This position is a developmental GS-09 target GS-12 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (GS-09). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. GS-09 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems and is described in detail in my resume. Examples of specialized experience includes aiding with the utilization of schematic diagrams, various testing instruments, and relevant electronic formulas to perform tasks such as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing and developing electronic equipment; assist with developing policies, standards, procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, and understanding the theories and principles in electronic systems and equipment to aid in the analysis, evaluation, fact-finding, and investigative techniques in order to gather data, identify factors, and recommend a solution from a number of possible alternatives; perform studies and assist with preparing reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate factual and procedural information clearly. OR EDUCATION: Applicants must successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement, Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-09) level or equivalent (grade level, pay schedule, pay band, etc.) and is described in detail in my resume. An example of creditable specialized experience includes utilize schematic diagrams, various testing instruments, and relevant electronic formulas to aid with tasks such as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing and developing electronic equipment; assisting with developing policies, standards, procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, and understanding the theories and principles in electronic systems and equipment to develop and recommend changes in procedures and technical instructions to management on substantive functions and practices in a high-level air traffic location; aid with the development of innovative methods, or procedures to meet emergency situations in an environment where rapid equipment restoration is always paramount to ensure continuous operation where required; design, develop, fabricate, troubleshoot, and maintain schematics and other components for a variety of interrelated electronic systems with a wide range of technical modernity and applicability. GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement, Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-11) level or equivalent (grade level, pay schedule, pay band, etc.) and is described in detail in my resume. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of and experience working with a wide variety of complex and integrated ATCALS and C-E equipment; familiarity of applicable laws, regulations, policies, methods, and procedures of a wide range of electronics principles and theories, capabilities, limitations, and interrelationships of electronic systems associated with air traffic control; and knowledge of all applicable safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
