RCP Construction is a mid-sized commercial construction company located in El Dorado Hills and building projects in the Greater Sacramento Region and the SF Bay Area. We provide a fast paced, positive work environment and are looking to add another member to the team!

  • We are currently seeking an Estimator/Preconstruction Manager.
  • This hybrid role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, leading preconstruction planning, and collaborating closely with clients, design teams, and internal project stakeholders to ensure projects are set up for success. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial construction estimating, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive early project decision-making that optimizes budget, schedule, and constructability.

Responsibilities and Duties

Estimating

Prepare detailed and accurate conceptual, schematic, and hard bid estimates for commercial projects across a variety of market sectors including but not limited to medical, mixed-use/multifamily, senior housing, retail, restaurants, sports/fitness and office

Perform quantity takeoffs and develop pricing based on historical data, subcontractor input, and market conditions

Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals

Identify cost-saving alternatives, value engineering options, and constructability improvements

Maintain and update historical cost data and estimating templates

Preconstruction Management

Lead preconstruction efforts from project inception through final contract estimate submission

Collaborate with owners, architects, and engineers during design development to align scope, budget, and schedule

Develop and maintain preconstruction schedules, phasing plans, and logistics strategies

Facilitate design build / design-assist and early trade partner engagement processes

Oversee the preparation of bid packages and procurement strategies

Coordinate with internal operations teams for a smooth project handoff

General

Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants

Track market trends and advise on material availability, escalation, and lead-times

Support business development by preparing preliminary budgets for proposals and client presentations

Uphold company safety, quality, and ethical standards

Understand and implement risk mitigation strategies

Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted

Minimum 5–8 years of commercial construction estimating experience, including preconstruction management

Proficient with estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Procore, Building Connected, MS Project, etc.)

Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, and industry best practices

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Strong negotiation skills and ability to foster team collaboration
