Global Product Manager – MV Secondary Switchgears (AIS & GIS)
In this role, you will own the assigned Medium Voltage Secondary Switchgear AIS and GIS product portfolio throughout its lifecycle, in line with customer needs, market developments, and the business strategy, define the product strategy and roadmap, translate market requirements into product and technology priorities, and drive new product development, launch, lifecycle management, and phase-out activities. You will work across Sales, Marketing, R&D and Operations to align roadmap priorities, lifecycle decisions, and product development activities, ensuring effective execution across the portfolio to deliver sustainable growth and profitability.
The role has global product management responsibility for assigned MV Secondary Switchgear products.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid.
Location: Europe, with preference for Skien, Norway, or Dalmine, Italy. Other European ABB locations may be considered.
Responsibilities
- Owns the global product strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle priorities for the assigned Secondary Switchgear AIS and GIS portfolio, while defining and maintaining the product business plan, including strategic objectives, value creation opportunities, investment needs, and key performance targets.
- Develops deep understanding of customer needs, applications, market trends, regulations, standards, and competitive developments, and translates customer and market requirements into clear product, technology, and portfolio priorities. Builds strong relationships with customers, utilities, markets, and internal stakeholders to validate priorities and guide product decisions.
- Leads product lifecycle management from introduction through growth, maintenance, modernization, and phase-out, initiates and prioritizes new product developments, variants, enhancements, and cost-improvement initiatives based on strategic value and business impact. Defines product requirements and target specifications, balancing customer value, competitiveness, technical feasibility, quality, cost, and time to market.
- Works with Sales and Marketing to develop go-to-market priorities, sales enablement content, product communication, and training and represents the product-management perspective in development projects and drives alignment across R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Marketing.
- Plans and coordinates product launches, phase-ins, and phase-outs, ensuring market readiness and effective execution across functions and regions, owns product-management deliverables and decisions at the relevant development stage gates and ensures agreed business targets remain visible, and defines the product value proposition, positioning, and differentiation by target segment and application.
- Monitors product competitiveness and identifies portfolio gaps, market opportunities, and actions required to strengthen the offering, tracks product performance, including sales, profitability, quality, delivery, installed-base feedback, and roadmap progress, and initiates corrective actions where needed, drives cost, quality, and value-improvement priorities with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to improve competitiveness and profitability.
- Provides product expertise and decision support for strategic opportunities, complex customer requirements, and critical escalations; maintains effective governance of product decisions, roadmap priorities, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder commitments.
- Ensures products comply with applicable regulations, standards, safety requirements, cybersecurity expectations, and internal product governance.
- Advances innovation and sustainability priorities, including the transition to SF₆-free solutions and the long-term competitiveness of the assigned portfolio.
LICENSE TO OPERATE / CORE VALUES
- Ensures the assigned products comply with applicable legal, regulatory, industry-standard, HSE, cybersecurity, quality, and ABB internal requirements throughout their lifecycle.
- Integrates sustainability and circularity principles into product strategy, development, lifecycle decisions, and the transition to SF₆-free solutions.
- Identifies compliance, safety, sustainability, and product-governance risks and drives timely mitigation with the relevant functions.
- Acts with integrity and ensures that product decisions and business activities comply with the ABB Code of Conduct, policies, processes, and delegated authorities.
- Promotes a culture of safety, quality, transparency, accountability, and responsible business conduct across all product-related activities.
COLLABORATION / LEADERSHIP
- Acts as the primary product-management interface between customers, markets, Sales, R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Marketing.
- Builds alignment across global and local stakeholders on product strategy, roadmap priorities, business cases, and lifecycle decisions.
- Leads cross-functional product initiatives through influence, clear governance, and fact-based decision-making.
- Partners with R&D to define product requirements, assess technical feasibility, and ensure development priorities reflect customer and business needs.
- Supports Sales and Front-End teams with product expertise for strategic opportunities, complex applications, and critical customer discussions.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Sales to ensure effective product launches, market communication, training, and sales enablement.
- Communicates product priorities, decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly across functions and management levels.
- Promotes knowledge sharing and provides functional guidance and coaching to product-management contributors and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; an advanced degree or business qualification is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in medium-voltage switchgear, product management, engineering, or a related field, including experience working in a global, cross-functional environment.
- Good understanding of MV Switchgear applications, industry standards, regulatory compliance, product safety, sustainability and SF₆-Free Portfolio Transition.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing global product strategies, roadmaps, and portfolio management across full product lifecycles.
- Proven ability to conduct customer and market analysis, competitive intelligence, and translate insights into differentiated value propositions and positioning strategies.
- Experience analyzing products performance and profitability.
- Proven track record in go-to-market strategy, product launches, and cross-regional execution with ability to build sales enablement and marketing alignment.
- Demonstrated excellence in cross-functional stakeholder management, including ability to lead and influence in global, matrix environments.
- Fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages are advantageous. Willingness to travel internationally.
