Summary
The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Inventory Management Specialist to join our Logistics Service team in Las Vegas, Nevada. In this vital role, you will support the delivery of exceptional healthcare to our Nation's Veterans by ensuring the efficient management, accountability, and availability of essential medical supplies, equipment, and inventory.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to the following: Responsible for assuring staff makes the appropriate eligibility determinations for transportation and beneficiary travel reimbursements for healthcare visits which requires an extensive knowledge of VA laws, directives, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Responsible to ensure accurate, timely and consistent information is entered in the Medical Center's database. Analyze, develop, plan, and advise on passenger movement policies and programs. Cultivate partnerships and multi-agency coordinated transportation activities. Management of program operations to identify and define requirements for the use of automated systems when dispatching and routing drivers. Provide training for staff on a variety of complex transportation management and patient related software. Must possess vast computer knowledge in creating and capturing data. Incumbent will manage VA's travel program BTSSS for veteran travel needs, this program is complex and requires an extensive amount of analytical thinking and complex problem solving. Inventory Management and Control: Manages and controls an assigned class of expendable material for a VA HCS and supported catchment area. Recognized as an authority on expendable (EX) commodity management and serves as a subject matter expert to all services and service lines. Inventories managed include a wide variety of expendable items and durable medical equipment (DME) which may or may not be available through the Medical/Surgical Prime Vendor (MSPV) program or other negotiated or Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contracts. Acts as a central point of contact for the coordination of commodity support and the resolution of logistics problems across organizational lines. Conducts short, mid and long-term advanced planning for expendable items and DME, utilizing enterprise-wide computerized planning tools. Analyzes data to include demand history, program requirements, VA HCS operations, procurement lead-time, current stock levels and other factors which impact procurement decisions. Manages inventory, independently sets initial stock and par levels and reorder points and resolves issues for a complete medical or service category (i.e., surgical, dental, imaging, engineering, prosthetics, laboratory or other major commodity). Authorizes significant changes in expenditure and stock levels based on usage requirements and budgeting considerations. Researches opportunities for and conducts analysis of potential cost savings, efficiencies, and process improvements using quantitative analysis and historical usage patterns. Utilizes best practices, principles and tools, concepts and methodologies to determine and evaluate supply system performance. Analyzes, coordinates and controls management of stock items to support preparation of long-range forecasts necessary to support new requirements. Returns, Recalls and Reutilization Implements federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies. Uses well established and commonly applied supply methods to maintain activity formulary inventory. Coordinates with the property managers for disposal of surplus or excess supplies in accordance with specific agency directives and procedures. Serves as the primary responder to the VA National Center for Patient Safety Recall Office for their area of responsibility. Makes emergent procurement decisions in coordination with stakeholders based on back order issues created by national recalls. Participates in Root Cause Analysis process to assist in determining how the supply chain is impacted upon a near miss or Veteran care mishap. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/28/2026.Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. For a GS 09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:GS 07 Grade Determination: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: managing a variety of expendable items and durable medical equipment; forecasting short and long range inventory needs; analyzing inventory management reports and the effectiveness of various options proposed to provide supply support; utilizing automated inventory management systems to maintain current inventory data; researching and analyzing information to resolve questions and issues, and implementing federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination: Possess equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. NOTE: If using education combined with specialized experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the baccalaureate level in the qualifying curriculum detailed above is fully qualifying.
