Job Description Summary

A full-time Laboratory Technician position is available in the Griffiths Laboratory at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. This is a 1-year appointment with the option of reappointment.

Job Description

Job responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

• •Participate in research on the molecular biology of respiratory viral infection, using rhinovirus and mammalian cell culture.
• •Performing routine molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, gene cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, sequencing analyses, and related procedures.
• •Culturing mammalian cell lines and performing viral infection experiments at BSL2.
• •Using experimental methods including microscopy, flow cytometry, protein assays, and real-time PCR.
• •Assisting with general laboratory organization, including inventory, and day-to-day research activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• •Strong technical skills in molecular biology.
• •Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• •Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

• •Preference will be given to candidates with an M.S. degree in biology or a related field.
• •Prior research experience in working with large datasets (ex. RNAi screens).
• •Experience working with and training undergraduate students.
• •Experience with the research organizational structure in place in the Biology Department at Miami University (Oxford).
