JOB TITLE: Laboratory Technician I

POSITION NUMBER : 2610-20450-LabTec-01

POSITION LOCATION: Atlanta, GA, USA

ANTICIPATED START DATE: 2-4 weeks after candidate identification

TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Laboratory Technician I will provide support for non-research biological science work to the Specimen Triage and Tracking Laboratory. The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Responsible for formulating media orders to support DSR activities.
  • Process and formulate reagent and media orders, including plates, buffers dyes, broths etc.
  • Responsible for ordering glassware, chemicals, and other equipment and supplies required to formulate and process media order.
  • Create and maintain documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform routine maintenance of equipment to include cleaning of equipment, laboratory and disposing of biohazard waste.
  • Responsible for order chemicals to keep lab stocked of ingredients.
  • Work collaboratively with team members ensuring effect process flow.
  • Document temperature ranges for freezers, refrigerators, balances and various hoods used, cleaning out of desiccators, water baths etc.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or
  • 2-5 years of equivalent experience

Required:

  • Experience working with established SOPs across molecular and microbiologist techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Previous experience with "chain of custody" materials and transfers.
  • Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts.
  • Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.

Language Skills:

The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
