The Third Judicial District Attorney's Office is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team.
Why the Third Judicial District Attorney's Office?
A Legal Assistant in our office is more than an administrative support role. This position offers an opportunity to work directly with prosecutors and professional staff throughout the life cycle of criminal cases. Legal Assistants play an important role in keeping cases organized, deadlines on track, legal documents accurate, and attorneys prepared for court.
The position provides an opportunity to develop practical experience in criminal prosecution, legal case management, court processes, and the operation of the justice system while working alongside attorneys and other experienced professionals.
If you have experience in a law office, court, prosecutor's office, public defender's office, law enforcement agency, criminal justice organization, or other professional environment requiring strong organization, case management, records, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage competing priorities, we encourage you to apply.
What You'll Do
As a Legal Assistant, you will provide legal administrative and case-management support to prosecutors and other professional staff. Responsibilities include:
Preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, notices, subpoenas, and other case-related materials
Assisting prosecutors with preparation for trials, hearings, and other court proceedings;
Creating, organizing, and maintaining electronic and physical case files
Entering, updating, and maintaining accurate information within the case management system
Managing calendars and tracking hearings, trials, deadlines, and other case-related events;
Assisting with the organization and processing of discovery and case materials
Performing electronic filing and producing case-related documents
Communicating with witnesses regarding scheduling and case-related matters
Coordinating routine case information with court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and other criminal justice partners
Proofreading legal documents and correspondence for accuracy, completeness, grammar, and formatting
Identifying missing or incomplete administrative case information and bringing time-sensitive matters to the attention of appropriate staff
Maintaining the confidentiality and security of sensitive and protected information.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will be someone who:
Is highly organized and attentive to detail
Can effectively manage multiple assignments and deadlines
Communicates professionally and effectively with attorneys, coworkers, witnesses, justice-system partners, and members of the public
Produces accurate, professional work and takes pride in getting the details right
Exercises sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
Is comfortable learning and using case-management, electronic filing, and other technology systems
Takes initiative within established procedures and recognizes when an issue needs to be brought to someone's attention
Works effectively both independently and as part of a team
Is interested in developing knowledge of criminal prosecution, court procedures, and the criminal justice system.
Minimum Qualifications
