Summary

About the Position: The position is located at A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, DIR for Education, Training and Research in the Dept. of Graduate Medicine Education, Staff Medical Library. Hours of operation Monday - Friday 0730-1600 - hours may change at the commands discretion. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Shelves library materials by shelving books using the National Library of Medicine (NLM) Classification system.
  • Use the Interlibrary Loan using specialized databases (DocLine, OCLC), requests articles from NLM, Federal Libraries, academic and public libraries in response to staff requests.
  • Tracks Loans using the Library ILS to check on status of borrowed materials, and as needed, request return of materials from library patrons.
  • Answers phone responds to customer queries, charges/discharges materials.
  • Re-shelves material that has been used by library staff and patrons.
  • Maintains statistics used to document use of library spaces, services, and resources.
  • Maintains Statistics: Tracks and reports relevant metrics to Library Director.
  • Works with librarians to market the library/Resource Center via signage, postmaster emails, and other methods.
  • Repairing minor damage to print materials.
  • Locates and retrieves cataloging records from data bases.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Processing a variety of library materials utilizing an automated library system, 2) Utilizing the Interlibrary Loan using specialized databases such as DocLine or OCLC, 3) Manning high-volume circulation and support desks, and 4) Answering patron queries, managing accounts, and resolving basic hardware, equipment, or catalog search issues. OR Education: Successful completion of one full academic year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library Sciences (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
