Summary

This position is located in the Patient Admissions Section of the Crow/Northern Cheyenne Business Office. Patient registration and eligibility services are the key point of interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, contract health services and private/commercial insurance. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Duties

Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Medical Support Assistant Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Patient Registration & Intake - Interviews patients to obtain demographic and insurance information, initiates new health records or coordinates reactivation of existing records, assists patients with completing RPMS registration forms areas. Eligibility Determination & Compliance - Determines patient eligibility per IHS guidelines, verifies Certificate of Indian Blood or tribal documentation, Identifies patients requiring pre-certification or prior authorization. Insurance Verification & Alternate Resources Management - Verifies Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance coverage, maintains and updates alternate resource information in RPMS, identifies coverage limitations and benefit requirements. Billing Support & Authorization Processing - Obtains signature for alternate resources and Contract Health Services, prepares and processes assignment of benefits forms, secures prior approvals and pre-certifications. Data Management, Reporting & Coordination - Maintains, verifies and corrects RPMS data for accuracy, coordinates with medical records and nursing staff and completes daily/monthly inpatient census (202 report).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-04 1 year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-4 level. OR 2 years above high school GS-05 1 years specialized experience Examples include: collecting demographics and third-party insurance information; verifying third party insurance; greeting patients on the telephone and in person, maintaining record confidentially and safeguarding patient information. OR 4 years above high school GS-06 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level GS5 Examples include: Interview and update pertinent patient information, make appointments for multiple providers, key updated information into patient files including third party insurance information, assessing the patient's need for routine, urgent or emergent care and taking appropriate action. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
