Description
Job Summary:
The Nutritional Services Assistant assists with set-up, serving and clean up in the cafeteria, maintaining proper temperatures within the strictest sanitation standards. Interacts with patients gathering meal orders, portioning cold food items, and delivering meals. Scheduled workdays and times could vary and will include weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- The ability to understand and follow diet orders.
- Prepares and portions cold foods not prepared by the on duty cook.
- Interacts with patients, staff, and visitors to provide requested meals.
- Maintains ongoing lists of items for purchase.
- Maintains strict sanitation standards and temperature controls during all phases of the food preparation, recording food temperatures as required.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment and work area per schedule.
- Willingly accepts reassignment to other duties if necessary.
- Completes assigned daily duties.
- Well organized, accepts assignments willingly and accomplishes them quickly.
- Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.
- Works steadily and always keeps busy.
- Anticipates problems and suggests solutions.
- Helps with not specifically assigned duties.
- Ability to work well with a diverse work team.
- Ability to work under pressure and with time constraints to achieve accurate results.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good personal grooming and hygiene.
- Good mental health and emotional maturity.

Professional Requirements:
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physician related information.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
- Follow expected work practices.
- Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.
- Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
- Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
- Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Graduation from high school or having obtained a GED is preferred.
- Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Knowledge of sanitation processes required.
- Must be able to make simple calculations.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Food Handlers Sanitation Certificate or willing to obtain within 30 days.
- State Food Allergen Certification or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Additional certifications may be required.

Physical demands of the position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion, and environment are required. A separate document will be provided upon hire, during annual evaluation process, and upon request. Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows whether to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
