The University of Miami, Division of Development and Alumni Relations, has an exciting opportunity for a full time Philanthropy Officer to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Philanthropy Officer works to fulfill the goals of the assigned unit/s by developing and executing strategies to secure major gifts from donors and prospects.

Core responsibilities:

  • Identifies prospective donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and develops cultivation and solicitation plans, involving the aforementioned groups and volunteers, as appropriate.
  • Ensures regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the progress of the departments.
  • Assists donors, prospects and other select individuals with appointments, scheduling and other necessary facilitation through clinical encounters.
  • Maintains communication with colleagues in medical departments, other schools and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the university’s key fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the assigned department’s needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments.
  • Documents all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in Raiser’s Edge and other appropriate donor files.
  • Demonstrates significant and continuous progress toward campaign or multi-year project goals.
  • Reaches departmental yearly cash fundraising goals (team goal).
  • Makes an appropriate amount of substantive cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts.
  • Reaches individual yearly goals for “number and amounts solicited” and “number and amounts funded.” Reaches additional goals as acting as a collaborator.
  • Manages an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
