The Dexterous AI Group (DexAI) is hiring a System Engineer with deep electrical engineering expertise and hands-on experience leading the design and development of electronic sensing systems. Our group invents tactile sensors for robotic systems. You will lead the electrical architecture, design, integration, and validation needed to turn early concepts into reliable systems that perform consistently under real operating conditions.

You will stay close to the hardware: designing electronic systems and circuits, reviewing board layouts, bringing up prototypes, investigating failures, and guiding design improvements. Working with sensor, mechanical, firmware, and software engineers, you will take systems from functional prototypes toward production readiness. Prior sensor experience is helpful; strong electrical engineering fundamentals and demonstrated electronic system design leadership are essential.

What You Will Do

Lead electrical system architecture. Translate product goals into electrical requirements, interface specifications, and measurable performance targets. Make architectural trade-offs across signal quality, bandwidth, latency, power, thermal limits, size, and cost.

Design and develop electronics. Own and contribute directly to circuit design, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout reviews, and board bring-up. Develop the analog, mixed-signal, power, and digital interface electronics that support our sensing and robotic hand systems.

Engineer for reliability. Build design margins, protection, fault handling, and testability into the system. Address noise, grounding, shielding, signal and power integrity, EMC/ESD, component variation, and environmental stresses relevant to the application.

Lead hands-on debugging and validation. Define verification plans, build measurement and test setups, and investigate failures at the circuit, board, and integrated system levels. Use structured experiments and root-cause analysis to drive corrective actions and verify that they work.

Own electrical interfaces and integration. Work with sensor, mechanical, firmware, and software engineers to define interfaces, timing, data acquisition, calibration needs, and fault behavior. Resolve interactions that affect system performance and reliability.

Bridge prototype to production. Guide design revisions through engineering validation and production qualification. Partner with manufacturing and suppliers on manufacturability, test coverage, component availability, yield, and repeatability.

Provide technical leadership. Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and maintain clear requirements, design documentation, and test evidence. Establish practical engineering standards appropriate to an inventive, fast-moving team.

What We’re Looking For

Deep electrical engineering expertise. Strong fundamentals in analog and mixed-signal circuits, board-level power design, digital interfaces, and signal and power integrity, supported by substantial practical design experience.

Relevant experience. 8+ years of electronic hardware or electrical system development, with 12+ years preferred. A demonstrated record of leading complex electronic systems from architecture through implementation and validation.

Direct design ownership. Personal responsibility for circuit design, schematics, PCB design decisions, bring-up, and debugging. Proficiency with electronic design tools such as Altium or Cadence Allegro, and confidence using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.

Prototype-to-production experience. Hands-on experience taking electronic hardware from early prototypes to a manufacturable, production-qualified design, including resolving problems uncovered during integration and qualification.

Reliability and test discipline. Experience applying design risk analysis, structured verification, stress testing, and root-cause analysis to improve hardware and system reliability. Familiarity with methods such as DFMEA and DVP&R.

Effective cross-disciplinary collaboration. Ability to understand mechanical constraints and firmware/software behavior well enough to define interfaces and diagnose system interactions, while bringing deep expertise in electrical engineering.

Practical automation skills. Ability to use Python or similar tools for measurement automation, data analysis, and repeatable verification.

Technical leadership and judgment. A record of earning trust across engineering teams, explaining design trade-offs clearly, and driving technical decisions without relying on formal reporting authority.

Curiosity about new tools. Willingness to evaluate and adopt useful engineering tools, including AI-enabled tools, with sound judgment about validating their outputs.

Helpful Background

Experience with sensors, precision instrumentation, robotics, or compact electromechanical systems is a plus. Tactile sensing experience is not required. Candidates from other industries who have designed and delivered reliable electronic systems are welcome.
