A t Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.

Why is this role important?

Product Designer, Buy, Fulfill & Assist

At Loblaw Digital, we know our customers and colleagues expect great digital experiences. Whether we’re making it easier for customers to shop and get the help they need, or creating tools that help colleagues fulfill orders and serve customers, we’re solving complex problems at significant scale.

From our office in Downtown Toronto, we build digital experiences across grocery, beauty, pharmacy, apparel, and more—connecting what happens online with the people and operations that make those experiences possible.

Why is this role important?

As a Product Designer on the Buy, Fulfill & Assist team, you’ll help shape critical experiences for both our customers and colleagues—from purchasing and fulfilling orders to getting and providing help when it’s needed.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Content Design, Data, and Operational teams to understand customer and colleague needs, uncover opportunities, and navigate complex problems that span digital experiences and real-world operations. You’ll design simple, intuitive experiences that work for the people using them and the teams responsible for delivering them.

You’ll take ideas from early exploration through detailed design, validation, and delivery, using research, data, operational insights, and strong product thinking to inform your decisions. You’ll contribute to a collaborative design culture and help create connected experiences that deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers, our colleagues, and the business.

What you’ll do

  • Problem Discovery & Definition: You’ll work with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Operations, customers, colleagues, and other designers to understand problems before jumping into solutions. You’ll participate in discovery sessions and workshops, synthesize inputs, ask thoughtful questions, and help teams clarify user problems, hypotheses, outcomes, and measures of success.
  • Interaction & Visual Design: You’ll turn complex journeys, workflows, data, and business rules into intuitive experiences using information architecture, journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed interaction design. You’ll create polished, high-fidelity experiences with strong attention to hierarchy, typography, spacing, responsive behaviour, interaction states, and accessibility.
  • Research, Validation & Iteration: You’ll participate in customer and colleague research, usability testing, competitive assessments, and other discovery and validation activities. You’ll bring together qualitative insights, quantitative data, and operational knowledge to improve your designs and inform decisions.
  • Product & Operational Thinking: You’ll develop a deeper understanding of how design decisions connect to customer and colleague needs, product strategy, operational realities, business priorities, and measurable outcomes. You’ll consider the end-to-end experience—not just what happens on a screen—and work with partners to understand how your designs affect the people and processes responsible for delivering the experience.
  • Design Systems: You’ll use existing components and patterns effectively, identify inconsistencies and gaps, and contribute improvements back to our Design System. You’ll consider edge cases, responsive behaviour, accessibility, and scalability rather than designing only for the ideal scenario.
  • AI-Fluent Product Design: You’ll explore how AI can improve both the experiences we create and the way we design them. You’ll experiment with AI-enabled workflows, conversational and generative interfaces, recommendations, automation, and emerging interaction patterns while developing your judgment about where AI creates meaningful value—and where it doesn’t.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, and other partners throughout the product development process. You’ll communicate your rationale, participate in discussions about trade-offs and constraints, surface questions and risks, and help the team move toward strong decisions.
  • Craft & Team Contribution: You’ll actively participate in critiques, share what you’re learning, seek feedback, and provide thoughtful feedback to other designers. You’ll contribute to improving the quality and consistency of Product Design across Loblaw Digital.
  • Inclusive Design: You’ll help ensure our products can be experienced by everyone, reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve. You’ll apply accessibility requirements and inclusive design principles throughout discovery, design, and delivery.

Does this sound like you?

  • The Product Thinker: You care deeply about Design, but you think beyond the screen. You want to understand the people you’re designing for, the business opportunity, operational realities, technical constraints, and measures of success so you can make better decisions.
  • The Systems Thinker: You consider how your work fits into broader customer and colleague journeys, workflows, products, and operations. You look for connections and reusable patterns rather than treating every screen or problem in isolation.
  • The Collaborative Designer: You work well with designers, Product Managers, engineers, researchers, operational partners, and other disciplines. You communicate your thinking clearly, listen to different perspectives, and respectfully challenge assumptions when needed.
  • The Critical Thinker: You’re curious and evidence-driven. You ask questions, explore alternatives, and are comfortable changing your thinking when research, data, or new context points you in a different direction.
  • The Craft Advocate: You care about the details that make products intuitive and polished. You’re building strong skills across interaction design, visual hierarchy, responsive behaviour, accessibility, prototyping, and Design Systems.
  • The Owner & Learner: You take responsibility for your work and follow through. You can independently move well-defined problems forward, know when to bring others in, actively seek feedback, and continuously expand your Product Design toolkit.

Your qualifications should include

  • 2–4 years of experience working as a Product Designer, UX Designer, or similar role on cross-functional teams delivering consumer experiences, colleague or enterprise tools, SaaS platforms, or other digital products.
  • A portfolio with recent case studies demonstrating your Product Design process from understanding the problem through design, validation, and delivery.
  • Strong foundations in interaction and visual design, with experience creating polished, accessible, and responsive digital experiences.
  • Experience working with Product and Engineering in a product development environment.
  • Working knowledge of Design Systems, including reusable components, patterns, variants, responsive behaviour, and accessibility.
  • Experience using user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs to explore and communicate solutions.
  • Experience participating in user research, usability testing, competitive analysis, or other discovery and validation activities.
  • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform Design decisions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain your Design rationale and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Ability to independently own well-defined Design problems while collaborating with more senior designers and cross-functional partners on la
