The College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence (CAI) is UW–Madison’s first new college in more than 40 years, bringing together three established and highly regarded departments: Computer Sciences, Statistics, and the Information School. Building on their longstanding strengths in research and education, CAI advances interdisciplinary discovery spanning computing, data, information, and artificial intelligence and prepares students to shape how technology is designed, developed, and used for the public good. Supported by more than $400 million in philanthropic and institutional investment, CAI is expanding its faculty by 50 positions and significantly growing its research enterprise. Faculty joining CAI have the opportunity to contribute to established academic communities while helping shape a new college at a pivotal moment in its development. CAI is based in Morgridge Hall, a new, state-of-the-art facility designed to foster collaboration, learning, and discovery.

The Department of Statistics within the College of Computing & Artificial Intelligence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is experiencing rapid expansion as part of the university's substantial investment in data science and artificial intelligence.

The department is also home to the Data Science major, which stands as the university's fastest-growing undergraduate program. Currently, the department features:

37 regular faculty members

Over 80 PhD students

Over 100 MS students

Approximately 1,800 undergraduate majors across statistics and data science

Position Summary:

We are seeking excellent candidates for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in Statistics.

The successful candidates will engage in the intellectual life of the Department through scholarly research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, graduate student mentoring and supervision, and university and professional service. They will proactively contribute to, support, and advance the college’s commitment to excellence among all aspects of their teaching, mentoring, research, and service; which includes making significant contributions to the department’s teaching mission through course development and delivery to undergraduate and graduate students in one or more fields of specialization.

Key Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will be expected to:

Engage in high-impact research addressing significant scientific and societal problems.

Conduct scholarly research and publish results in premier academic journals or refereed conference proceedings across statistics, data science, and closely related fields.

Present research findings at prominent national and international meetings.

Teach undergraduate and graduate-level statistics courses.

Mentor and advise students.

Participate actively in professional, university, and community outreach service.

Required Qualifications:

Research: Demonstrated excellence, or demonstrated potential for excellence, in statistical research (very broadly defined).

Teaching: Proven interest and ability to teach effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Collaboration: Strong ability to interact with an interdisciplinary, collaborative intellectual community.

Education:

PhD in Statistics or a closely related field is required by the appointment start date.
