Job Description Summary
The Molecular Imaging Collaboration Scientist will lead external scientific collaborations that generate innovations, applications, and evidence for GE HealthCare's next-generation Molecular Imaging portfolio. The role will have a primary focus on PET technology while also supporting clinical translation and strategic collaborations across SPECT. Serving as a technical and scientific bridge among academic collaborators, product teams, engineering, and MIM, this individual will translate unmet clinical needs and emerging research into feasibility studies, research tools, product concepts, and scientific evidence.
The successful candidate will independently shape and lead research collaborations, develop technology-centered evidence plans that complement clinical evidence generated by partner sites, and drive multiple scientific publications. The individual will combine hands-on expertise in PET algorithms, reconstruction, post-processing, and quantitative imaging with strong scientific communication and relationship-building skills. This role is well suited to a collaborative scientist who can represent GE HealthCare effectively and translate technical innovation into meaningful clinical and scientific impact.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Combine knowledge of physics, reconstruction, engineering, and clinical needs to design and drive collaborative research projects aligned with near-, medium-, and long-term business needs.
- Develop and validate new applications of total-body PET, supporting clinical implementation, adoption, and validation of new capabilities. Maintain sufficient breadth across SPECT to support clinical translation and enable effective partnerships with engineering and MIM.
- Partner across GE HealthCare with scientists, engineers, and product leaders to evaluate prototypes, validate technology performance, and accelerate the transition of research tools toward product-ready solutions. Engineering and product teams retain ownership of commercial product implementation.
- Contribute directly to research algorithms, reconstruction methods, post-processing approaches, quantitative imaging methods, and research software needed to support collaborative investigations.
- Provide onsite scientific and technical support, when needed, to validate new technologies developed by engineering teams and to support partner-site investigations.
- Lead original research that results in peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and patent applications, elevating GE HealthCare's leadership in Molecular Imaging innovation.
- Develop technology-centered evidence plans that complement clinical evidence generated by partner sites and support multiple high-quality publications.
- Effectively communicate technical analyses and results to GE HealthCare leadership, academic partners, and scientific audiences at congresses and meetings.
- Identify unmet clinical and technical needs with external collaborators and translate those needs into defined research and development opportunities. Build and maintain collaborator networks, and provide insights that inform GE HealthCare roadmap planning and evidence-based communication of research results.
- Lead the technical execution and scientific direction of external collaborations, including site engagement, scientific deliverables, data analysis, and publication planning. Support project operations, timelines, documentation, and governance in partnership with research and project managers.
- Pursue external grants and other strategic partnerships to expand scientific resources and impact.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. Degree in an engineering or science field such as Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, or Physics
- Minimum 4 years of experience in medical imaging, image processing, or related application development.
- Demonstrated experience developing PET imaging technology, including hands-on work in one or more areas such as image reconstruction, corrections, quantitative imaging, post-processing, algorithm development, system-performance evaluation, or research software development
- Experience in developing with modern programming languages e.g. Python, MATLAB etc.
- A proactive, curious, and adaptable approach—comfortable taking on new scientific and technical challenges.
- Excellent English language communication skills
Desired Characteristics
- Strong track record and experience in publishing scientific articles, with key emphasis in MI physics and applications
- Experience utilizing AI tools for development (Claude, Codex, etc).
- Experience in industrial/academic collaborations
- Experience operating in a clinical research environment
- Experience in grant writing and/or externally funded research
