Senior Construction Supervisor

Description

The Senior Construction Supervisor reports to the Construction Superintendent and is responsible for the management, organization and supervision of the fieldwork performed by Habitat for Humanity of Omaha (HFHO) construction staff, subcontractors, and volunteers on their assigned projects. The principal objective of the position is to lead and teach construction staff and volunteers through the safe and efficient construction of quality, residential homes.

What You'll Do

Lead Construction Operations

• •Oversee two or more active residential construction projects as needed.
• •Manage projects according to established schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
• •Analyze blueprints, construction documents, and project requirements to develop efficient construction plans.
• •Prepare short-term project schedules and coordinate upcoming work with Construction leadership and project management teams.
• •Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available and ready before each phase of construction begins.
• •Monitor project progress and communicate potential schedule impacts, risks, or delays.

Develop & Lead Field Teams

• •Lead, train, and mentor construction staff on Habitat Omaha construction processes, procedures, and best practices.
• •Supervise the work of employees, volunteers, subcontractors, and other jobsite participants.
• •Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities to team members.
• •Conduct performance discussions and help identify growth opportunities for staff.
• •Foster a collaborative, positive, and mission-focused team culture.

Champion Safety

• •Promote and model Habitat Omaha safety practices and OSHA standards on every jobsite.
• •Ensure construction staff have the knowledge and training needed to maintain safe work environments.
• •Train staff to respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, and safety concerns.
• •Support documentation and reporting of safety incidents and corrective actions.
• •Help maintain a culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.

Ensure Quality & Excellence

• •Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with Habitat Omaha standards, building plans, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
• •Conduct quality checks throughout the building process.
• •Maintain organized, efficient, and professional jobsites.
• •Ensure required paperwork, inspections, and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
• •Identify opportunities to improve construction methods, quality, efficiency, and project outcomes.

Manage Resources Effectively

• •Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and volunteer resources to maximize efficiency.
• •Protect Habitat Omaha's tools, equipment, vehicles, and building materials.
• •Practice good stewardship of organizational resources.
• •Support cost control efforts through effective planning and utilization of people and materials.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• •High school diploma, construction management education, trade training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• •3+ years of construction supervisory experience.
• •3-5 years of residential construction experience.
• •Demonstrated expertise in at least two residential construction disciplines such as framing, siding, drywall, finish carpentry, or related areas.
• •Experience training, mentoring, and developing others.

Additional Requirements

• •Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
• •OSHA 30 certification required within six months of hire.
• •HFHI Competent Person certification required within six months of hire and annual recertification thereafter.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must use their hands to feel and maneuver objects, tools, or controls. They must reach with hands and arms, climb or balance themselves, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They must be able to talk and hear.

The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Vision requirements are that the employee must see well, either naturally or with correction, and must have good peripheral vision. The employee must be able to hear well, either naturally or with correction.

Work Environment

The employee will predominantly be working outside. There is frequent exposure to wet, hot, cold, and /or humid conditions. The employee must be comfortable safely climbing a ladder to a second level height. The employee frequently works near heavy machinery, power tools and saws. At times, the noise level may be very loud. The worksite terrain may be rough and uneven. The employee will need to be adaptable and adjust work assignments depending on the number of volunteers that arrive.
