Senior Counsel, Payments & Fintech

About the role

We are the world’s leading provider of AI-powered solutions for social impact. We’re looking for an experienced payments lawyer to provide practical, strategic legal guidance across our payments businesses and international financial operations.

As a trusted adviser to senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Finance, Treasury, Risk and Compliance, you’ll help Blackbaud expand payment capabilities, manage complex regulatory requirements and support secure movement of funds across borders. This is an opportunity to apply your payments expertise with significant independence while supporting technology that helps purpose-driven organisations move resources where they are needed most.

What you'll be doing

• •Serve as a senior legal adviser to Blackbaud’s global payments businesses, guiding product design, market expansion and operational decisions across domestic and international payment services
• •Draft and negotiate complex agreements with payment processors, financial institutions, networks, technology providers, customers and strategic partners
• •Advise on payment regulations and industry requirements, including money transmission, card network rules, electronic payments, anti-money laundering, sanctions, consumer protection and cross-border funds flow
• •Partner with Product, Engineering, Finance, Treasury, Risk and Compliance to develop payment solutions and scalable compliance approaches that balance commercial goals with legal and operational risk
• •Support global treasury and settlement activities, regulatory reviews and continuous improvement across the Law Department, including managing specialist external counsel when needed

What you'll bring

• •At least 7 years of relevant legal experience, including significant work with payments, fintech, financial services or another highly regulated technology environment
• •A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
• •Experience advising on complex payment products, commercial agreements and regulatory matters across multiple jurisdictions, including cross-border payments or international funds flow
• •Sound commercial judgement and the ability to turn complex legal requirements into clear, practical guidance for senior business and technical stakeholders
• •Strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills, with the confidence to work independently, manage competing priorities and assess the legal and compliance implications of emerging technologies, including AI-powered tools

The starting base pay is $150,400.00 to $204,100.00. Blackbaud may pay more or less based on employee qualifications, market value, Company finances, and other operational considerations.
