Position Summary
This mid-level SRE II position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable enterprise solutions within the Information Security team. The successful candidate will apply an engineering-based approach to solving complex security and reliability challenges, leveraging machine data analytics and log analysis across the enterprise. Designing systems that touch critical business functions—from customer ordering and public websites to internal fulfillment processes and product development. You will partner with senior technical leaders and cross-functional teams to architect solutions, implement security protocols, and drive F5's digital transformation through secure and flexible platforms.
This position is based in Seattle, WA.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and architect scalable, secure system solutions under the guidance of senior technical leaders, with focus on enterprise-scale distributed systems
- Implement security-focused solutions using engineering best practices and machine data analytics for security across the enterprise
- Lead initiatives in log analysis, intrusion detection, and security analytics with supervision and mentorship
- Apply DevOps tooling and API scripting to solve complex operational and security challenges
- Develop and articulate technical proposals and implementation timelines under senior review
- Partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement enterprise-scale solutions with focus on scalability, performance, and security
- Collaborate on service availability and quality initiatives to deliver high-quality, secure services
- Assist in incubating new ideas for business outcomes and security improvements
- Contribute to F5's digital transformation by designing systems that provide secure and flexible platforms for internal teams
- Support data-driven decision-making through effective design, delivery, and tooling
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions to ensure quality and engineering excellence
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex security and reliability issues, escalating to senior architects as needed
- Actively collaborate with team members and senior technical leads to deliver quality solutions
- Participate in on-call rotation activities with senior engineer support for critical security incidents
- Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong engineering-based approach to problem-solving with focus on quality and excellence
- Proficiency in a variety of scripting languages and tools (Python, PowerShell, Bash, Shell)
- Solid understanding of API design and scripting for enterprise solutions
- Working knowledge of DevOps tooling, infrastructure automation, and security protocols (such as SAML)
- Understanding of enterprise distributed systems, scalability, and performance optimization
- Knowledge of machine data analytics and log analysis for security purposes
- Receives regular direction and mentorship from senior-level SRE and security staff
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically
- Ability to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Strong team player with a willingness to learn and grow
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications
- Effective communicator capable of creating technical partnerships across teams
- Ability to take constructive feedback and apply it to improve work quality
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing requirements and technical landscapes
- Exposure to security protocols and security-first architectural approaches is a plus
- Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms is a plus
- Automation tooling such as Terraform or Chef is a plus
- Exposure to AI tooling such as Generative AI, LLMs, and prompts is a plus
Qualifications
- Successfully completed a Summer 2026 internship with F5
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field, or additional relevant experience.
- Must be able to start no later than September 30th, 2027
- Must be able to work onsite in accordance with F5's policies; fully remote work options are not available
- Demonstrated experience with scripting and development using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages
- Understanding of DevOps practices and tooling
- Strong understanding of software development and systems engineering principles
- Exposure to security protocols and security best practices
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with developing independent skills
- Distributed systems concepts and scalability principles

The annual base pay for this position is: $114,400.00 - $171,600.00
