Job Description:
Job Summary
The Surgical Coordinator manages the complete administrative lifecycle of surgical scheduling for our urology practice. You will be responsible for booking procedures, securing insurance pre-authorizations, ensuring medical clearances are met, and guiding patients through their pre- and post-operative journeys.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and schedule inpatient and outpatient urological surgeries, biopsies, and in-office procedures.
Maintain the surgeons' calendars, optimizing block time at local hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs).
Submit surgical reservations and equipment requests to facilities in an accurate and timely manner.
Communicate financial responsibility to patients, including estimated co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, answering questions regarding scheduling and logistics with empathy.
Review and track pre-operative requirements, including blood work, EKG results, and clearances from primary care or cardiology.
Provide clear instructions to patients regarding pre-op guidelines (e.g., medication adjustments, fasting) and post-op follow-up expectations.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of medical scheduling, surgical coordination, or prior authorization experience (urology experience is a plus).
Terminology: Strong foundational knowledge of urological medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
Technology: Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) platforms (and Microsoft Office.
Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
