TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE)

Duties

Conducts classroom, laboratory or field instruction. Develops and/or revises training materials. Evaluates student progress and performance. Counsels students to identify and help resolve problems as required. Maintains professional and technical expertise. Accomplishes special projects.

Qualifications

CONTINUATION OF CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT.... Students in the Apprentice Aircrew Egress Systems mechanic course normally are basic airmen who have no prior technical training or experience. Graduates are normally assigned to maintenance activities as semi-skilled egress mechanics. As such, they will be responsible for independently performing routine inspection, adjustment, repair, service and operational checks of egress and related system components. Performance of more complex functions are accomplished under the guidance of a skilled egress systems mechanic. This course includes many exercises and objectives covering topics such as familiarization with and construction features of aircraft and major assemblies; purpose and operation of ground support equipment; techniques of egress system maintenance (purpose and use of hand tools and equipment; technical orders; AF manuals and regulations, and inspections and maintenance documentation); inspection, maintenance, repair, servicing and operation of egress systems (module, hatch, basic intermediate, dual and advanced) and related aircraft systems (pneudralic and electrical). Reference sources are extensive and include standard references such as technical orders, regulations and manuals plus special publications containing technical data on new developments and unique systems or equipment. These courses must be screened and pertinent data selected, sequenced and correlated. Current information mandatory due to use of explosives in the various egress systems. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS-1712-09 series. For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Providing knowledge of aircraft maintenance and equipment. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B or J.D., with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of instruction & of training aids and devices used in training programs. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing & to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses & of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. Knowledge of egress systems theory to include pneudralics, electrical principles, explosive safety and handling. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of egress systems. Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
