Summary
About the Position: Serves as an Administrative Support Assistant performing a wide range of specialized administrative work for a diverse, technically complex and geographically dispersed organization. Management may select at either the GS-05, GS-06 or GS-07 grade level. Full performance is at the GS-07 grade.
Duties
- Prepare responses to correspondence which are of administrative or financial interest, or general correspondence.
- Create, coordinate, and process personnel actions using the automated system.
- Coordinate actions or provide guidance on problems affecting personnel/pay matters for assigned personnel.
- Prepare travel estimates and orders, and processes travel vouchers for assigned personnel.
- Prepare and process training requests, tracks completed training and maintains accurate training records.
- Perform time and attendance responsibilities for a large organization.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of office administrative assistance duties such as office automation work, personnel administration, and general administrative functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must submit copies of all relevant transcripts with your application.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must submit copies of all relevant transcripts with your application.) Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of office administrative assistance duties such as office automation work, personnel administration, reports preparation and general administrative functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative duties for pay issues, personnel management activities, and travel issues, records management, using personal computers, database management, and civilian personnel automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-05: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks may be advanced without time restriction to the GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Time in Grade Requirement for GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
Some positions in the federal service allow applicants to substitute education for experience. For this job series, you may substitute education for experience to qualify at the GS-05 grade level. You must qualify based on experience alone for the GS-06 and GS-07 grade level -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted for the GS-06 and GS-07 grade levels. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
