Description

  • Position Type: Part-Time | School Year (September–June)
  • Schedule: Weekday afternoons (approximately 3:00–6:30 PM)

Derby Academy is seeking enthusiastic, talented, and dependable music instructors to join our growing After School Music Lessons program. We are currently accepting applications from instructors in the following areas:

  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Guitar
  • Drums/Percussion
  • Brass
  • Woodwinds
  • Strings

Our private lesson program serves students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 in a supportive, student-centered environment. Instructors work individually with students to develop strong musicianship, technical skills, and a lifelong love of music.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, high-quality private music instruction.
  • Develop individualized lesson plans based on each student's age, experience, and goals.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment.
  • Communicate professionally with families regarding student progress and scheduling.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and lesson records.
  • Collaborate with Derby Academy staff to support the success of the music program.
  • Encourage student participation in optional recitals and performance opportunities.

Schedule

  • Flexible weekday afternoon and early evening hours.
  • Instructors may teach one or multiple afternoons per week based on availability and student enrollment.
  • Lessons generally take place between 3:00 PM and 6:30 PM .

Compensation

$37.50 per 30 minute lesson

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency on your primary instrument or voice.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred (private lessons, classroom instruction, collegiate teaching, or community music programs).
  • Ability to work effectively with children of varying ages and experience levels.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field preferred, though exceptional performers and experienced instructors are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks prior to employment.
