Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Duties

  • Performs the entire scope of work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, installation and relocation of industrial air conditioning systems, air compressors, and combination heating/air conditioning systems.
  • Performs work on specialized application air conditioning and heating equipment to accomplish proper climatic and temperature conditions.
  • Must have a working knowledge to perform routine electrical repairs and installation.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as maintain temperature and relative humidity in buildings; remove, repair, clean, replace and install steam and hot water heating and cooling coils, controls in air conditioning units up to the supply and return shut-off valves; perform routine electrical repairs and installation. I can inspect, repair and service industrial and domestic air conditioning and heating systems. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, parts that weight up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry item over 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS. Works inside buildings, shops, and outside in the heat and cold. Subject to contact with dirt, dust, and grease and to shocks and burns from various voltage. Subjects to cuts, and bruises.
