This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, Directorate of Public Works (DPW). Duties

  • You will be responsible for installing, repairing, overhauling, and performing maintenance on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems.
  • You will be diagnosing and locating malfunctions, disassembles, repairs, replaces and/or adjusting thermostats, pressurestats, humistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices.
  • You will be troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing ventilation equipment, including exhaust fans, circulating fans, and fresh air fans.
  • You will be assisting in starting, stopping, logging, etc., of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • You will be performing preventive maintenance and operational checks on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, following an established schedule.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Performing common preventive maintenance tasks such as recognizing causes of faulty equipment; assisting with the repair of a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units/systems; tightening connections, making splices, insulating exposed wires, AND cleaning and lubricating moving parts. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work involves strenuous, heavy physical effort in constantly reaching, bending and turning. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally heavier. Weight handling equipment is available when handling large units. Ladders, scaffolds, and platforms may be used when working on large systems or roofs. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, in all types of weather. Subject to sudden temperature changes and extreme cold during repair of large walk-in refrigerators and in mechanical rooms having extreme temperatures. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders and scaffolds. Exposed to possibility of injury from electrical current. Exposed to cleaning chemicals. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes are required. Steel toe shoes, hard hats and safety glasses, are required at all times. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn.
