Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented technology lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) in selling to commercial and public sector customers throughout the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, with a primary focus on supporting AWS sales in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry, providing AI and IT infrastructure services, such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, and more to private and public sector customers.
- Key job responsibilities
- The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, negotiating, and advising on strategic technology service agreements with enterprise customers, public sector customers, and partners, as well as providing legal support for local and regional services and initiatives. The role will also involve ongoing legal counsel and regulatory interpretation and guidance for senior executives and other business and legal team members on a variety of product development, operational, security, compliance, data protection and public policy matters. The role includes participating in other legal team projects, including managing legal issues that arise in existing relationships and handling customer and business partner inquiries.
We are looking for a candidate who is proactive, entrepreneurial, enjoys being challenged, has strong technology and communication skills, and demonstrates sound, pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations.
This position is based in London, United Kingdom. Some regional and international travel will be required.
- A day in the life
- You will work with various teams within the AWS organisation. Our lawyers value working alongside and in person with their business colleagues and local legal teams to solve a constant flow of novel challenges in a growing and exciting business. AWS empowers millions of customers worldwide to build, innovate, and scale their businesses through our comprehensive cloud computing platform.
The role involves providing legal support to AWS's Sales and Marketing team (SMGS) in service of tech- and regulatory-savvy customers in the United Kingdom and Northern Europe across commercial and public sector engagements, covering a range of cloud and technology transactions with customers who are often highly knowledgeable about the technology they procure. Work extends beyond the UK to include transactional and regulatory support across EMEA, delivered through team work allocation and ad-hoc assignments in collaboration with colleagues across multiple jurisdictions.
Day-to-day activities may include negotiating enterprise agreements with UK and Northern European customers, advising on regulatory matters (including UK GDPR, the Online Safety Act, and sector-specific frameworks), coordinating with EMEA teammates on multi-country deal structures, and serving as lead counsel on strategic sales transactions and partnership agreements. You will also support UK public sector engagements, including Crown Commercial Service frameworks and G-Cloud procurements. You will pioneer AI-driven transformation of legal operations—improving contract review cycles, eliminating manual bottlenecks, and deploying advanced research tools that deliver insights in minutes instead of hours. Your innovations will multiply our legal function's impact, enabling faster decisions, consistency, and proactive risk mitigation.
- About the team
- The UK/Northern Europe AWS Legal team is part of the broader EMEA SMGS Legal organisation and consists of lawyers supporting AWS's regional customer base across commercial and public sector engagements. Based in London, the team advises on a wide range of cloud and technology transactions with some of AWS's most sophisticated customers, spanning financial services, healthcare, telecoms, and government. The team also handles EMEA-wide workstreams, including matters of data protection, financial services regulation, and telecommunications. Work spans transactional, regulatory, and advisory support across multiple jurisdictions, requiring close collaboration with business stakeholders and legal colleagues throughout the region.
Basic qualifications
- - License to practice law in Europe, US or other common law jurisdiction
- - Experience in transactional work, including drafting and negotiating commercial contracts or equivalent
- - Minimum of 2+ years post-qualification legal experience.
- - Previous work experience in a law firm, government, or in-house at a technology company.
- - Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills.
Preferred qualifications
- - Knowledge of general AI tools
- - Experience in web services/cloud computing, software licensing, telecommunications or equivalent
- - Experience in working directly with government officials and regulatory bodies
- - Familiarity with cloud computing, IT infrastructure and telecommunications policies, laws, and regulations.
- - Experience with IT transactions, including services agreements.
- - Experience supporting UK government/public sector procurement (including Crown Commercial Service frameworks and G-Cloud).
- - Understanding of UK and EU data protection law (UK GDPR) and regulatory frameworks.
- - Curiosity about the way things work and proclivity to innovate and simplify.
