About Our Job

Do you have prosecutorial experience and a passion for pursuing high-level, complex, organized crime cases? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you in Denver!

The Denver District Attorney’s office is hiring an Associate Deputy District Attorney (at least 5 years prosecutorial experience required) to join our Organized Crime Unit. Attorneys assigned to the Organized Crime Unit represent the People of the State of Colorado in complex criminal prosecutions, including organized crime, gang-related violence, large-scale drug distribution, racketeering, conspiracy, and coordinated multi-defendant cases. They also provide legal counsel to state and federal law enforcement agencies across the Denver Metro Area and work closely with such investigative partners to target, develop, coordinate, and oversee long-term investigations that lead to case filing and prosecution.

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this role is $119,763 - $136,069 based on the selected candidates years of experience. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule

This position reports on site from 8:00AM to 5:00PM at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St suite 5300 Denver, CO 80202.

What You'll Do

This position is collecting applications for this role, however, this is an at will appointed position by the Denver District Attorney, John Walsh.

The DA's Office is an exciting, mission‑driven work environment where attorneys make a significant difference through sustained effort and collaboration. Physical demands include walking, sitting, hearing, handling, lifting items including case files, dockets, exhibits, etc., weighing up to 50 lbs. or more, and driving and safely maintaining a District Attorney fleet vehicle where determined necessary and appropriate by the District Attorney.

As the Associate Deputy District Attorney you will:

  • Investigate and prosecute organized-crime, gang-related violence, and/or large-scale narcotic distribution cases
  • Manage complex, multi-defendant prosecutions including conspiracies, organized crime groups, criminal enterprises, large-scale narcotics traffickers, and gangs involved in shootings or violent acts. Responsibilities include charging cases through complaint and information, investigating/indicting cases through grand jury, written motions practice, litigating legal issues, and trying cases before a jury
  • Demonstrate strong legal competency in complex litigation, motion and trial advocacy, 4th and 5th Amendment law, as well as organized crime, gang prosecution, and narcotics trafficking statutes
  • Work collaboratively with local, state, and federal law-enforcement partners to cultivate and develop proactive investigations targeting criminal organizations, violent gangs, and major narcotics traffickers
  • Provide ongoing legal guidance to detectives and agents during active investigations. Advise on target selection, evidence collection techniques, and charging strategies. Review and approve associated search and arrest warrants. Direct investigative follow-up
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, community partners, and intelligence units to identify emerging gang trends and criminal networks
  • Assist fellow deputies in the prosecution of gang-related crimes, violent crimes connected to organized groups, and major drug distribution cases

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Doctor of Jurisprudence degree or Bachelor of Laws degree.
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years of experience as an attorney at law as a prosecutor
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4 and 205.6. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • The position of Deputy District Attorney is statutorily authorized by C.R.S. § 20-1-201 and has powers and authorities as established by C.R.S. § 20-1-202. A Deputy District Attorney is a peace officer as established by C.R.S. § 16-2.5-132.
