Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Health System Contracting Associate to join our Network Contracting team.
Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.
About the role:
The Health System Contracting Associate helps develop and execute Oscar's network strategy by evaluating, negotiating, and managing partnerships with hospitals and health systems. You will combine financial analysis, strategic problem-solving, and relationship management to improve affordability, network access, and the member experience.
In this role, you will analyze provider performance, financial information, and market dynamics, develop negotiation strategies, support complex contract negotiations, and translate findings into clear recommendations for senior leaders. You will also partner across Network, Finance, Legal, Provider Operations, and other teams to implement agreements, resolve provider issues, and identify opportunities to strengthen Oscar's networks.
You will report into the Manager, Network Contracting.
Work Location: This is a remote position based in the field, open to candidates who reside: Georgia, North Carolina or South Carolina. Your daily work will involve a blend of work from your home office and frequent local travel for client meetings. Occasional travel may be required for team meetings and company events. #LI-Remote
Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $87,188- $114,434 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities:
Support the development and execution of market-level contracting strategies that advance Oscar's network adequacy, growth, affordability, and member-experience objectives.
Analyze and evaluate provider economics, reimbursement arrangements, utilization, competitive dynamics, and contract performance.
Translate complex financial and operational analyses into clear recommendations for negotiation strategy and contracting decisions.
Prepare for and participate in negotiations with hospitals and health systems, including developing reimbursement rate models, contract positions, presentation materials, and scenario analyses.
Negotiate and manage contracts with assigned healthcare providers, with guidance from senior team members, focusing on sustainable economics, clear terms, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Conduct comprehensive reviews of existing provider agreements to identify financial, operational, and contractual improvement opportunities.
Manage cross-functional contracting workstreams from initial analysis through negotiation, execution, and implementation, proactively identifying risks and driving issues to resolution.
Support improvements to contracting tools, policies, workflows, and performance reporting.
Monitor assigned networks to gauge compliance with standards, developing corrective action plans with network contracting and market leadership to remediate deficiencies.
Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in healthcare client management, healthcare consulting, strategy and operations, healthcare contracting, healthcare finance, payer or provider operations, or a related analytical field.
2+ years of experience supporting analytical or strategic workstreams and developing recommendations for senior stakeholders.
1+ years experience analyzing complex financial or operational data and translating findings into actionable business recommendations.
1+ years experience navigating and organizing large data sets such as hospital price transparency reimbursement, claim files and provider rosters
Experience supporting negotiations, commercial agreements, strategic partnerships, or other complex, cross-functional initiatives.
Bonus points:
Experience in healthcare, health insurance, hospital or health-system strategy, provider contracting, or reimbursement.
Experience communicating with senior internal and external stakeholders
Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; experience with SQL or other analytical tools
Associate’s degree or equivalent professional working experience.
