Your role & work environment
As an Associate within the Midcorp M&A team, you will play a key role in advising medium-sized and large companies on strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestments, and other corporate finance assignments.
Based in Brussels, you will join a team of experienced M&A professionals operating within ING Business Banking. The Midcorp M&A team works closely with ING's Wholesale Banking M&A team, creating one of the leading Corporate Finance platforms in Belgium.
You will be involved in Belgian and cross-border transactions and work alongside entrepreneurs, CEOs, shareholders, financial sponsors, and external advisors. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to complex transactions while further developing your technical expertise, commercial acumen, and client advisory skills.
What you'll do
Support business development and origination
You will contribute to the identification and development of new business opportunities by:
- Preparing client presentations, pitch books, and marketing materials.
- Conducting market research, industry analysis, and competitive benchmarking.
- Identifying potential buyers, investors, and strategic opportunities.
- Building market knowledge and strengthening relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
- Monitoring M&A activity and market developments.
Execute M&A transactions
You will support the full transaction lifecycle by:
- Performing company valuations, financial modelling, and transaction analyses.
- Managing key transaction processes, including virtual data rooms, Q&A coordination, due diligence activities, and meeting organisation.
- Preparing and reviewing transaction documentation, including term sheets, mandate letters, and other deal-related materials.
- Coordinating day-to-day communication with clients, investors, and external advisors.
- Supporting internal approval processes and transaction governance requirements.
- Assisting senior team members in executing strategic corporate finance mandates.
Contribute to team excellence
You will:
- Prepare market intelligence, sector updates, and pricing analyses.
- Support senior team members in client advisory and coverage activities.
- Maintain internal databases, presentation templates, and knowledge repositories.
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses and strategic projects.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and record keeping for compliance, audit, and internal control purposes.
- Operate in line with all legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements, including ING policies, procedures, and the Orange Code.
Who are we looking for?
You are passionate about corporate finance and enjoy working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and client-focused environment. You combine strong analytical capabilities with excellent interpersonal skills and a hands-on mentality.
You bring:
- A Master's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- Approximately 4 to 6 years of professional experience in Corporate Finance, M&A, Transaction Services, Investment Banking, Valuation Advisory, or a related field.
- Proven experience in transaction execution and financial analysis.
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills.
- Excellent analytical capabilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and senior stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset and strong sense of ownership.
- The ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- A collaborative approach and strong team spirit.
- Fluency in English, Dutch, and French.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
