Automation Engineer

Supervises employees on an assigned shift to perform maintenance or service functions within established timing, quality and cost standards. This position has emphasis on skilled crafts such as machinists or electricians. Troubleshooting of breakdown repairs and skilled fabrications are typical. The supervisor must possess a high level of technical skill to assist subordinates in troubleshooting and help them solve problems. Operations are of mid-Level complexity normally requiring some more complex maintenance/repair activities.

Job purpose

In this position, you will be a member of the automation team within the Maintenance Department, supporting the factory`s automated manufacturing.

You will need to manage and enhance the stability and sustainability of production through individual work or related projects, and to collaborate with relevant parties to ensure the cyber security of operational technology (OT).

Principal accountabilities

Respond to automation, electrical, and instrumentation breakdowns promptly. Support rapid troubleshooting and restoration to minimize production downtime.

Investigate equipment failures and identify root causes efficiently. Work closely with maintenance technicians and production teams to implement effective corrective actions.

Proactively diagnose automation system performance issues. Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.

Address performance, safety, quality, and production attainment challenges through develop and deliver PLC, Robotics, SCADA, and control system enhancement solutions. Leverage process knowledge to propose and implement automation improvements.

• •Maintain all automation and control systems in a fully documented state, ensuring robust version control, change management, and configuration governance for all software and hardware modifications.
• •Maintain OT cybersecurity in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and implement small to medium-sized OT and automation projects to ensure secure and reliable system implementation.

Scope

Ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of production equipment, utility systems and facility infrastructures at Clean Air and PGMs Shanghai plant, maximizing equipment availability and minimizing downtime.

Collaborate with process, production, EHS, quality, IT and other departments on delivery of factory automation and digitalization projects.

Plant based position.

Qualifications/ knowledge/ experience

• •Bachelor`s degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering or Automation or relevant engineering field.
• •5+ years working experience in manufacturing industry dedication to automation, robotic, electrical, or equipment.
• •Proven experience in PLC, HMI and programming with mainstream brands (at least two): Siemans, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff.
• •Knowledge of mainstream industrial field bus, e.g. PROFIBus-DP, CC-Link, DeviceNet, CAN Bus, PROFINet, Modbus TCP, EtherCAT.
• •Knowledge of motor, servo motor system.
• Experience reading and tracing Electrical drawing, Pneumatic diagrams and PI&D diagrams.
• •Knowledge of systems in Supervisory Control layer (including SCADA and MES), as well as the development and expansion of those systems
• •Experience with Siemens WinCC or AVEVA System platform is preferred.
• •Specific work experience with industrial robotics system (e.g. ABB or Fanuc) and programming is advantage.
• •Documentation management and summarization skills, with knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Kaizen.
