Description
Provides direct care to children concerning hygiene, safety, meal supervision, monitor in school, interaction with other children and activities on and off the unit, under the supervision of Therapeutic Group Home Program Manager. Uses patient diagnosis/problems/needs and interdisciplinary team treatment plan to guide care for each child in an individualized manner. Serves as a role model to teach manners, safe ways to express feelings, appropriate behavior and living skills. Helps monitor and maintain a safe milieu and utilizes therapeutic communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Must be of 21 years of age.
- Assist children with activities of daily living.
- Preparing meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and snacks for the children when they are at the Group Home.
- Ensure that children are prepared to get on the school bus in the morning (hygiene, school supplies, etc.).
- Ensure children are properly dressed for the weather when getting on the school bus in the morning.
- Escorting Day Treatment students that are living in the Group Home to and from school daily.
- Assist children with daily homework that is sent home from school.
- Assist children with any larger school projects or events when needed.
- Ensure children’s living areas are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by completing daily and weekly cleaning sheets.
- Have proper knowledge of all hospital approved cleaning supplies.
- Inform Group Home Manager or Unit Assistant when we are low on supplies or groceries.
- Assist the therapists by giving them information to create different treatment plans for each child.
- Follow and help the children follow their treatment plans that are created by their therapists.
- Monitoring children during outside play (in the yard, bikes, walks, etc.)
- Assist children in all therapeutic programming.
- Leading both skills based and activity-based groups when therapeutic groups are not scheduled.
- Assist the Activity Assistant when taking children on outings both in town and out of town.
- Preparing activities and outings when the Activity Assistant is not available.
- Communicate changes in child’s status with the entire team, including outpatient providers that the children see.
- Assist in special procedures (ie. restraints and time outs).
- Checking in medications when they are delivered and making sure they properly match each child’s MAR.
- Counting all controlled medications during each shift to ensure medications are being given at the proper times.
- Administering the correct medications to the children at the scheduled times.
- Escort children on appointments.
- Participate in special procedure debrief meetings with other staff.
- Interact with children, redirecting and teaching children positive, safe ways to express feelings and interact with others; transporting children to therapeutic activities when needed.
- Ensure safety of children/staff by communicating significant changes in the behavior and implementing non-violent crisis intervention techniques with staff assistance.
- Understand basic child development; implementing age appropriate interventions during supervision of play, daily routines, grooming, mealtimes and off-unit activities.
- Serve as a role model to assist the children to be in control of himself/ herself and to achieve greater self-understanding.
- Observe and document significant behaviors of children and communicate information to the multidisciplinary team.
- Learn to apply mental health principles in all relationships with patients.
- Learn, understand and implement hospital approved intervention plans.
- Escort visitors.
- Answer phones.
- Attend unit meetings and exchange information regarding activities of the unit. This includes reading emails, meeting minutes, and the Teams app regularly before or during your shift.
- Complete all required charting and paperwork in a timely manner.
- Maintain current, hospital required, and certifications.
- Complete all required competencies and training modules, as assigned, by date due.
- Complete duties as assigned by licensed staff, house supervisor and unit manager.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION and LICENSURE
High School Diploma or GED required. At least two years of college education highly recommended. Must have valid, current MT driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age. Successful completion of Medication Aide certification. Position requires Criminal Records Background Check, Statement of Health and Drug Test.
