Description

This is a year-round position. Applicants must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides friendly, accurate, and efficient customer service at the checkout stand. The Cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions, handling payments, and supporting a positive shopping experience while following all Island Market policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Greet customers promptly and provide courteous, professional service at all times.

Accurately scan, ring, and process customer purchases using point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Handle cash, checks, credit/debit cards, EBT, and other approved payment methods with accuracy.

Maintain accurate cash drawer balances and follow cash-handling procedures.

Bag groceries carefully and efficiently, following product handling guidelines.

Assist customers with questions regarding pricing, products, promotions, and store policies.

Verify customer identification for age-restricted purchases when required.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe checkout area.

Monitor pricing accuracy and report discrepancies to supervision.

Follow loss prevention and safety procedures.

Abide by all Island Market procedures and safety standards.

Perform any and all other assigned tasks.

Requirements

Job Qualifications / Required Skills / Key Competencies

Previous cashier or customer service experience preferred but not required

Strong customer service and communication skills

Ability to accurately handle cash and process transactions

Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, and make change

Attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Strong time management and organizational skills

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good analytical and organizational skills

Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)

Work Environment

Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods

Regularly required to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs

Exposed to noise, customer traffic, and frequent interaction with the public

This position is eligible for Prime Time Pay . Prime Time Pay provides an additional $3/hour above the base rate for all hours worked Saturdays and Sundays and hours worked Monday through Friday between 6:00 pm and 3:00 am.
