Job Description

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing strategic external communications that strengthen Sun Life’s brand, enhance client engagement, and support business growth. The role creates compelling content and communication programs across client communications, marketing campaigns, and key opinion leader (KOL) partnerships to ensure consistent, impactful, and audience-centered storytelling.

Working closely with Marketing, Client Experience, Digital, and external partners, the Communications Specialist helps bring Sun Life’s campaigns and initiatives to life through clear messaging, effective communication channels, and meaningful influencer and stakeholder engagement that build trust, relevance, and advocacy for the brand.

Responsibilities

1. Client Communications

• •Develop and review Client-facing communication materials across multiple channels to keep clients informed, engaged, and connected with the Sun Life brand.
• •Collaborate with business units to gather insights, align messaging, and ensure all communications are relevant, timely, and Client-centric.
• •Support issues and crisis communications by developing clear, accurate, and timely materials that help address client concerns, maintain trust, and provide guidance during service disruptions, operational incidents, or reputation-sensitive situations. (social media advisories, emails, FAQs, etc.)

2. Content Development and Storytelling

• •Write and distribute press releases, media materials, executive messaging, and campaign narratives that increase awareness of Sun Life’s products, services, thought leadership, and brand initiatives.
• •Develop communication materials that support product launches, brand campaigns, corporate initiatives, events, and marketing programs across owned, earned, and paid channels.

3. Key Opinion Leader and Influencer Engagement

• •Plan and execute key opinion leader and influencer engagement programs that extend campaign reach and strengthen brand credibility.
• •Develop content briefs and key messages, coordinate content approvals, and ensure the timely delivery of influencer commitments.

4. Stakeholder and Project Coordination

• •Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to plan communication activities and ensure seamless execution of campaigns and initiatives.
• •Provide communication counsel and recommendations to stakeholders based on audience needs and campaign objectives.

Preferred Skills

• •Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to develop clear, accurate, and engaging content for a variety of audiences and communication channels.
• •Strong knowledge of external communications, including client communications, marketing communications, media materials, press releases, speeches, thought leadership articles, and digital content development.
• •Experience in developing communication strategies and content that support brand-building, client engagement, and business objectives.
• •Experience managing key opinion leader and influencer partnerships
• •Strong stakeholder management and project coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across marketing, client experience, digital, agency, legal, compliance, and business teams.
• •Creative and innovative thinking, with the ability to adapt to changing needs and situations as well as best practices and trends in communications and social media
• •Ability to assess communication, reputational, and stakeholder risks and recommend appropriate messaging strategies and response approaches when needed.

Qualifications

• •Graduate of Communications, Marketing, or a relevant course
• •With over five years of experience in public relations and corporate communications
• •Extensive experience in writing for digital
• •Experience in being part of an agile delivery a plus
