Compliance Associate
The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
Why we are recruiting
As a Compliance Specialist, you will primarily support the Legal and Compliance team in assessing potential partners, vendors, grantors, awardees and other individuals and organizations engaging with the Forum. You will help ensure that relationships are reviewed consistently, efficiently and in line with the Forum’s standards before they are progressed. You will also support in the overall Compliance program to ensure implementation of the related activities and initiatives under the program.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
The Compliance Specialist role will be part of the Legal and Compliance Team and will report to the Forum’s Chief Legal Officer. The position will interact daily with the Forum’s Business Engagement, Contract Management and Partner Development teams as well as directly with the Forum’s Centres and Foundations.
Breakdown of main responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct due diligence reviews which includes sanctions, trade restrictions and adverse media screening, and evaluate potential risk factors and areas
- Analyse and consolidate results from internal systems, commercial databases, media sources and supporting documents, and investigate and resolve potential matches or red flags before proceeding with the conclusion and final findings
- Prepare concise, evidence-based due diligence opinions, summaries, recommendations and reports for review by senior members of Legal and Compliance
- Oversee due diligence monitoring requirements and prepare due diligence reports, escalating red flags to the Chief Legal Officer when necessary
- Maintain accurate case records, supporting evidence, source references, review dates, outcomes, mitigations and monitoring requirements
- Liaise and collaborate with colleagues across various teams to streamline and optimize due diligence processes
- Manage, strengthen and/or recommend due diligence platforms and tools to ensure efficiency, process integration and continuous improvement, including the use of AI and other analytical tools in the conduct of due diligence.
- Stay updated on changing global regulations, including AML, Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), FCPA, and sanctions frameworks.
- Provide expertise and support in building and implementing the various initiatives and activities under the Compliance program
The successful candidate will be assessed on
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to identify the material issues and translate research into clear, concise and business-focused conclusions
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to distinguish verified facts from allegations, assumptions and unresolved questions
- Capacity to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and obtain information tactfully and professionally
- Flexibility, maturity and the interpersonal and cross-cultural collaboration skills needed to work in a demanding and international environment
- Systematic, methodical and technologically adept in the use digital tools and platforms
Preferred Requirements and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law, business, finance, international relations, political science, criminology, compliance or another relevant field
- Up to 3 years of professional experience in due diligence, compliance, financial crime, risk, investigations, research, audit or a similar function, preferably in a bank, financial institution, professional services firm or international organization
- Understanding of customer or partner due diligence, sanctions screening, adverse media research, ownership and control analysis, and risk-based escalation
- Experience using public sources and commercial databases to conduct structured research and verify corporate and individual information
- Strong analytical, writing and documentation skills, with the ability to present findings in a neutral and concise manner
- High level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. Knowledge of Salesforce or other case-management tools a plus
- Fluent in English and excellent oral/written communication skills
