Description of Work

This is skilled work in preparing/cooking a major portion or all a meal in a commercial kitchen. This position is usually responsible for preparing an entrée, starch, or vegetable for Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Supper meal. Cooks are responsible for all consistency modifications required including thickening products, chopping, mincing and pureeing food and beverage items to medically prescribed consistencies. Other responsibilities may include baking breads, cakes, and other dessert items; preparing special catered meals or party foods; processing foods for meal substitutions; and preparing special medically prescribed dietary meals, etc. Work is performed in accordance with recipes and quantities of ingredients provided for each meal. This work requires skill in determining cooking times for various food items in order to complete all portions of the meal at the prescribed serving times

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 - $48,810.00

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Working knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity portions
  • Proven ability to calculate amounts of food needed to supply the number of servings required
  • Proven knowledge with the standard tools, methods, and practices utilized to maintain food safety and proven experience with the uses and adaptabilities of various commercial kitchen equipment
  • Working knowledge of how to properly alter food and beverage consistencies.
  • Proven ability to perform simple math calculations and understand/follow oral and written instructions and to interpret and follow standard and medically prescribed recipes.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Schedule:

5am - 2pm / 4am - 12pm (noon), 2 varying off days per week

Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).
