Position Summary

The Business Development team supports the firm across a broad spectrum of new business and client relationship-building activities, including the creation of new business proposals and firm marketing materials, upkeep of the databases that track firm experience and client information, competitive and market intelligence, and coordination of client events.

The Coordinator for Business Development will work closely with the Finance Business Development team, partners and other lawyers to develop and implement business and client development initiatives for the firm’s Finance practice. The role supports and manages client pitches, RFPs, presentations, events, sponsorships, legal rankings and league table submissions, and other profile‑raising activities for the practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the strategic preparation and coordination of targeted client presentations, pitch materials, and RFP responses
  • Draft, coordinate, and submit legal directory and awards submissions for key industry guides (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR)
  • Assist with league table submissions and contribute to improving data mining, accuracy, and efficiency of data collection processes
  • Manage and maintain print and digital marketing materials to ensure content accurately reflects the practice’s substantive strengths, experience, and current activities
  • Maintain and update matter and experience databases for precedent, marketing, and business development purposes
  • Monitor and evaluate business development initiatives and market activity within the Finance space
  • Prepare and maintain competitive and market analysis, including research on clients, prospects, and competitors; leverage industry research platforms and news sources (e.g., S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, Bloomberg, KBRA DLD, PitchBook) to track trends, transactions, and client developments
  • Support the planning and execution of select conferences, sponsorships, client events, and industry galas
  • Collaborate with Public Relations and Marketing teams to promote the Finance practice internally and externally.

Qualifications/Position Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels, including partners and senior stakeholders
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and disciplined approach to processes and quality control
  • Demonstrated accountability and ownership of assigned workstreams and deliverables
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments
  • Working knowledge of transactional practice areas; Finance practice experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience with CRM and/or experience management systems and external research platforms (e.g., InterAction, ContentPilot, Bloomberg, PitchBook, Capital IQ, LSEG, KBRA DLD) preferred.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 1-3 years of experience in legal marketing or business development within a law firm or professional services environment preferred
  • Experience supporting transactional and/or Finance practices strongly preferred

Compensation

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $70,000 - $80,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, anticipated assignment, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Davis Polk offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
