Amazon's RISC Legal team is seeking a Corporate Counsel to lead legal support for our Health and Safety regulatory portfolio. In this role, you will serve as the primary legal advisor for a portfolio of health- and safety-focused regulatory agencies and product categories, partnering with business, compliance, and cross-functional legal teams to manage regulatory risk across Amazon's Stores. You will advise on high-visibility product safety matters, agency inquiries and investigations, recalls, and regulatory engagements, and you will help shape the strategy for how Amazon proactively identifies and responds to product safety and compliance risk.
- Key job responsibilities
- Serve as primary legal advisor on the health and safety portfolio, covering regulatory bodies including the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other state and federal regulators.
- Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement matters; coordinate responses to agency requests and lead engagement strategy with regulators (e.g., FDA, CPSC inquiries).
- Lead legal response on imminent hazards and enforcement-driven escalations, driving timely cross-functional response.
- Partner with compliance, public policy, product, and operations teams to translate regulatory requirements into scalable compliance solutions and mechanisms.
- Partner with Legal, business, and tech teams to design AI tools and automation to drive safety and compliance solutions at scale.
- A day in the life
- This role puts you at the center of Amazon's product safety and compliance strategy. On a given day, you might assess a proposed FDA rule's impact on the business, advise on an urgent hazard escalation demanding rapid cross-functional action, shape AI-powered compliance tooling, or huddle with compliance specialists to discuss new and emerging risks. You will engage directly with federal and state regulators, building trusted relationships, representing Amazon in high-stakes conversations, and helping position the company as a leader in proactive safety and compliance.
- About the team
- Our Regulatory Intelligence, Safety, & Compliance (RISC) Legal team works to make Amazon's Store safe for customers, empower selling partners with clear compliance standards, and help the business navigate complex regulatory frameworks. We partner across legal, policy, and business teams to drive product safety and compliance outcomes at scale.
