About You

You'll care about writing. Our team is remote and written communication is essential. In addition to caring about a well-crafted email and a succinct conference abstract, you understand that good writing is good design and engineering.

About the Role

A talented digital and interactive developer is needed on the Element 84 team to support our federal clients in their mission. The Element 84 Federal Business Unit works primarily with NASA, NOAA, and USGS on projects involving the processing, distribution, and visualization of geospatial and remotely sensed data in the Cloud. As a member of this team, this developer will coordinate communication, education, and branding efforts for a large program focused on modernizing weather prediction capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities

Execute social media strategy through editorial planning, campaigns, publishing, monitoring, engagement, and measurement.

Develop newsletters, announcements, web stories, outreach materials, presentations, graphics, infographics, short-form video, and other multimedia.

Translate complex EPIC/UFS science and technology into clear, accurate, audience-appropriate content.

Maintain consistent EPIC/UFS/NOAA branding and editorial quality.

Support education, outreach, events, software releases, technical milestones, and community opportunities with coordinated communications products.

Quality control of deliverables

Manage stakeholder engagement workflows, community feedback processes, action tracking, approvals, and reporting.

Qualifications

Here are the guidelines we're looking at to gauge experience and skillset:

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience as a communications role (communications specialist or equivalent)

Experience creating and publishing multimedia content for web and social media platforms

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva for designing graphics and visual communications

Experience developing and executing digital communication campaigns that increase audience engagement and visibility

Experience using analytics, user feedback, and market research to optimize digital content and communication strategies

Ability to translate complex technical, policy, or scientific information into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences

Ability to work as a member of a small team, collaborating with subject-matter experts and external stakeholders

Proponent of continuous improvement; willingness to bring new ideas to the team

Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and proficiently in a remote environment

Energetic, self-motivated, team player

Preferred Qualifications

Active NOAA CAC badge

Proficiency with project management tools, including tracking tasks, deadlines, and deliverables

Environmental and/or climate domain knowledge

Google Analytics

Experience with Figma, Webflow, Storyline, or similar tools for prototyping or building interactive web experiences.

R, GIS fundamentals, or tools such as Tableau or Power BI to build charts, maps, and interactive data stories.

Domain knowledge: Environmental, climate, sustainability, or public-sector communications, and public risk communication.

Contract Requirements

Per contract requirements, applicants must be U.S. citizens, or lawfully reside in the U.S. with U.S. work authorization.

Element 84 will not sponsor work authorization now or in the future.

Non-U.S. citizens must have resided continuously in the U.S. for the past two years.

Must be able to pass a Department of Commerce background investigation (NACI), including fingerprinting.

Compensation

The salary range for this job is $80,000 - $125,000. Actual compensation offered to candidate will be finalized at offer and may be above or below the posted range due to skill level, experience, industry-specific knowledge, education/certifications, or geographic location. Base salary represents just one component of the Element 84 total compensation package. Employees will also receive a number of benefits as listed below. Other compensation for this position may include bonus eligibility (dependent on employee performance and company profits).

Location & Remote Work

This is a full-time, salaried position. While this role offers the flexibility of fully remote work, candidates must reside within the Washington, DC metropolitan area to meet specific project and security requirements.
