Role Overview

The Director of Enterprise Learning Design and Delivery (the Director) leads the strategy, design, and delivery of enterprise learning solutions that build critical capabilities and drive business performance. Acting as a strategic advisor to business and HR leaders, the Director translates workforce and performance needs into impactful learning and performance solutions. The Director provides strategic leadership for The Hartford Learning Academy, establishes enterprise learning governance and design standards, and advances innovative approaches through AI, emerging technologies, and data-driven insights. The Director leads the development and delivery of modern, scalable enterprise learning experiences that promote skill growth, behavior change, and measurable outcomes. The Director partners across the business, HR, technology, and external providers to create an integrated capability-building ecosystem. The Director reports to the VP, Enterprise Learning and is based in Hartford, CT. Candidates based elsewhere in the Northeast may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of modern, scalable enterprise learning experiences aligned to business and capability priorities.
  • Provide strategic leadership for The Hartford Learning Academy, including its governance, learning priorities, and enterprise-wide upskilling opportunities focused on critical and emerging capabilities.
  • Translate business and performance needs surfaced from consultation into high-impact enterprise learning and performance solutions.
  • Work closely with the Talent team to understand skill gaps emerging from Strategic Workforce Planning and use these insights to shape enterprise learning priorities.
  • Establish enterprise learning design and delivery standards focused on instructional integrity, application, behavior change, employee experience, and measurable outcomes.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve learning solutions using contemporary learning methods, technology, data, and employee insights to provide an excellent employee experience that meets business needs.
  • Ensure enterprise learning is high-quality and multi-modal: in-person, virtual, blended, experiential, e-learning, and in-the-flow-of-work.
  • Partner across the business, HR, technology, and external providers to design and deliver integrated capability-building solutions.
  • Collaborate in a ‘One Hartford’ manner with peers in Talent, HR Learning, and the business unit training groups to ensure enterprise learning solutions align with the overall suite of solutions.
  • Use data and insights to measure impact, continuously improve solutions, and inform priorities.
  • Optimize internal resources, external partners, and investments to deliver high-quality enterprise learning solutions.

Qualifications

8+ years of relevant experience in enterprise learning, learning design and delivery, capability building, talent development, or a related discipline; recent experience in a large, complex public company preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex learning programs, initiatives, or cross-functional teams within a large organization.
  • Strong knowledge of modern learning design, adult learning, instructional design principles, performance consulting, and scalable learning solutions.
  • Ability to translate business and performance needs into effective capability-building solutions.
  • Experience leveraging AI, learning technologies, analytics, and emerging approaches to modernize learning and improve performance.
  • Strong program leadership, executive communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with experience managing partners, resources, and investments.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent judgment and decision-making skills.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$128,000 - $192,000
