Summary

Duties

  • You will perform work independently within established procedures, technical guidance, and accepted electrical trade practices.
  • You will operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, in support of assigned duties, when qualified and authorized.
  • Installs, modifies, repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, and tests electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and associated electrical equipment.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and electrical schematics. Ability to lay out work, operate various machines, and utilize test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, and ammeters. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of shipboard electrical installation techniques and processes. Ability to operate a variety of power and hand tools (e.g., drill presses, hydraulic punches, grinders). A solid mathematical background and the ability to apply electrical trade theory to perform both routine and complex work. Ability to apply electrical trade theory to perform both routine and complex work. Ability to utilize systems such as power and lighting, alarm systems, and motor controllers. Ability to understand electrical safety practices. Ability to follow all prescribed safety rules, especially concerning energy isolation (lockout/tagout). Ability to apply electrical theory to troubleshoot faulty circuits and identify problem areas.
