About the opportunity

Fortress Safety is hiring an Electronics Test Engineer to lead the testing of our safety-critical electronic hardware, from design verification and validation through to NPI and production. Based in Wolverhampton (West Midlands) on a hybrid pattern, you'll join our Engineering team and report to the Electronics Engineering Manager.

We're flexible on experience

You might currently work as a Test Engineer, Hardware Test Engineer, Test and Validation Engineer or Electronics Engineer. However you got here, we're open to your background. That includes the test equipment and automated test platforms you've used, the scripting and test automation languages you know, the communication protocols you've worked with, and the industry you come from. What matters is strong electronics fundamentals and a love of problem-solving.

What you'll be doing

• •Developing, putting in place and maintaining electronic test procedures and test equipment for new and existing products
• •Carrying out design verification, validation, functional, environmental and reliability testing
• •Diagnosing and repairing hardware faults at board and system level
• •Designing and commissioning automated and semi-automated test systems that improve quality and efficiency
• •Analysing test results and producing clear technical reports and recommendations
• •Supporting new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing transfer projects
• •Working with design engineers to make products easier to test and more reliable
• •Investigating failures using structured root cause analysis
• •Helping production and quality teams resolve manufacturing and field-return issues
• •Keeping test specifications and documentation up to date and compliant with industry and regulatory standards

What you'll bring

Must-have

• •A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a related engineering discipline
• •3+ years' experience in electronics test, validation or development
• •A strong understanding of analogue and digital circuits
• •Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and signal generators
• •Proven fault-finding skills down to component and board level
• •Confidence reading schematics and technical documentation
• •The ability to analyse data and write detailed technical reports
• •An understanding of EMC, safety and relevant compliance standards

Nice-to-have

• •Experience with automated test systems and test software development, in any language or platform
• •An understanding of embedded firmware at bare-metal level
• •Experience with spectrum analysers
