Department Overview

Our Pronto Deployment team provides mission-critical software to UK emergency service agencies, with our primary focus being the Pronto Digital Policing app. In our continuous effort toward "Solving for safer", Pronto has become the most popular mobile policing application in the UK, trusted by over half of the UK’s 45 police forces and used by around 75,000 police officers on a daily basis. Pronto was designed with and for front-line operational users, delivering an intuitive solution with high adoption, strong compliance, and positive feedback.

Based in the West End of Glasgow, our team started as Kelvin Connect in 2002 as a University of Glasgow spin-out and has grown to around 100 employees. Now as part of Motorola Solutions, we continue to expand and create new opportunities across the UK and beyond.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and proactive Test Engineer local to Glasgow (or within a reasonable traveling distance) to join our mission-focused team. In this role, you will play a critical part in helping to ensure product stability across every release, taking genuine pride in release quality, and serving as a key quality advocate who is not afraid to speak up if quality standards are not met.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Test Execution

• •Test mobile software solutions and applications to help ensure products meet requirements and are free of defects
• •Write, maintain, and execute comprehensive test cases for regular software releases
• •Read and evaluate requirements documentation from Technical Project Managers, customers, or team members to clarify scope and provide accurate testing estimates

Automation & Quality Standards Advocacy

• •Advocate for testing best practices across Pronto delivery teams and assist in rolling out automated test solutions
• •Maintain automated test suites and identify new testing tools, technologies, and ideas to continuously improve software quality
• •Take personal pride in release quality and actively challenge project outputs or block deployments if established quality standards are not met

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Field Verification

• •Analyse quality metrics and defect trends to implement proactive solutions that improve overall product delivery
• •Communicate complex technical bugs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and partner with core development teams to understand system behavior
• •Attend customer premises periodically to witness on-site software usage in real-world operational environments

Basic Requirements

• •Formal qualification (Degree) in Computing Science
• •Commercial software testing experience
• •3 years UK residency required for security check clearance

Technical Expertise

• •Commercial Testing Expertise to perform systematic test execution, test case creation, and quality tracking across mission-critical software solutions
• •Analytical Mindset to review manual processes and evaluate how to script, streamline, or automate workflows
• •Requirements Refinement to evaluate technical documentation, provide accurate time estimates, and collaborate with technical teams
• •Technical Communication to explain technical bugs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and liaise with core software development teams

Professional Experience

• •Quality Advocacy to maintain strict quality standards during release cycles, provide constructive feedback without damaging relationships, and advocate for quality standards
• •Field Verification to attend customer sites periodically and witness live operational software usage
• •Workload Prioritisation to assess competing tasks continuously and prioritize critical testing activities effectively

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

• •Interest in learning or experience with automated test frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Appium, Cypress)
• •Knowledge of Agile methodologies
• •ISTQB certification
• •Ex perience with Java or another Object-Oriented programming language
• •Knowledge of source code management technologies (e.g., Git, SubVersion)
• •Knowledge of software development and issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub)
• •Experience with Android smartphone testing
• •Experience with XML and XSLT
