POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary function of this position is to provide dependable support to the team while learning Southern Landscape Group's safety procedures, quality standards, equipment, properties, and methods of performing work. Entry-Level Team Members are not expected to arrive with advanced landscaping knowledge or experience. They are expected to have a willingness to learn, follow direction, work safely, contribute positively to the team, and take pride in providing an exceptional experience for our clients.

Through hands-on training and experience, the Entry-Level Team Member will develop the skills necessary to operate basic landscape equipment and perform increasingly technical tasks, providing an opportunity to progress into Mowing, Landscape Care, Landscape, or Hardscape Technician positions.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Review daily job assignments and job notes with the Team Leader to understand the work to be performed and the expectations for the property.

2. Follow instructions from the Team Leader and experienced team members while learning Southern Landscape Group's procedures, quality standards, and safe work practices.

3. Assist with landscape maintenance and mowing services including:

Mowing turf using appropriate equipment after receiving training.

Edging turf and landscape areas.

String trimming around landscape features and areas inaccessible by mowers.

Blowing and cleaning hard surfaces upon completion of work.

Pulling weeds and assisting with landscape bed maintenance.

Assisting with pruning and plant maintenance under the direction of an experienced team member.

Assisting with seasonal cleanups, including bed cleanout, edging, mulch installation, and leaf removal.

Assisting with snow removal as required.

4. Assist with landscape installation activities including:

Preparing landscape beds.

Moving and staging plants, soil, mulch, stone, and other materials.

Assisting with plant and turf installation.

Watering newly installed plants and turf.

Assisting with drainage, edging, grading, and other landscape installation activities under supervision.

5. Assist with hardscape projects by:

Preparing and maintaining work areas.

Moving, staging, and organizing construction materials.

Assisting experienced team members with pavers, retaining walls, natural stone, drainage, and other hardscape installations as directed.

Learning proper use of basic construction and measuring tools.

6. Operate basic hand tools and small landscape equipment after receiving appropriate instruction and demonstrating safe operation. Equipment may include:

Push mowers

Backpack and handheld blowers

String trimmers

Stick and bed edgers

Hedge trimmers

Rototillers

Pressure washers

Basic measuring and hand tools

Other equipment as assigned and properly trained

7. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and efficient job site throughout the workday.

8. Observe client properties and communicate potential concerns, property damage, safety issues, or enhancement opportunities to the Team Leader.

9. Perform assigned work efficiently while supporting the team's goals for schedule, quality, safety, and customer service.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Requirements

A high school degree or GED

Must have great verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management

Must have great analytical problem solving and decision making ability

Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals

Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensures truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.

Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard

Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs

Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations

Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance

Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude

Knows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core values

CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record

VDACS Registered Tech Certification (within 1 year of hire)

CPR/First Aid Certification (within 1 year of hire)
