Job Purpose:

The Equipment Operator operates construction, excavation, hauling, and maintenance equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers, excavators, or grade tractors.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.

Uses excavating machinery to dig holes and trenches

Receive construction materials unload or deliver them to work site.

Identify faults in equipment and take measures to fix them.

Carryout minimal repairs on machinery when necessary.

Adhere to safety regulations and report hazards to supervisor.

Perform maintenance routine on equipment.

Perform physical activities like kneeling, crawling, jumping and lifting excess of 50 pounds.

Inspect working environment even before work begins to ensure that it is safe.

Establish a good working relationship on site.

Performs Laborer duties when operation of equipment is not needed.

Performs related duties as assigned

Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures

Education, Skills and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities

Excellent mechanical skills are necessary

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to read gauges, dials and other indicator, and adjust them as necessary.

You must be able to coordinate your actions with those of other workers on a busy construction site.

Physical Requirements:

You must coordinate movements of your hands and feet in order to guide equipment in tight places.

Must have the ability and be willing to work in adverse conditions, not just including extreme weather but enclosed space and heights up to 80 feet as well.

Construction projects take place at all hours of the day or night, so schedules might include late nights and overtime hours. You should be willing to accommodate a schedule that can require weekend work as well
